REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The High School Alternative Program Paraprofessional reports to the Alternative Learning Program Teacher and is responsible to that person for the proper interpretation and performance of the duties and responsibilities of that position.
BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION
The basic function of the Alternative Learning Program Paraprofessional is to provide student and administrative support to the Alternative Learning Program staff and administration in the daily operations of the program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION
Maintains student records in compliance with ADE requirements. Provides student support on an "as needed" basis as determined by staff. Monitors student attendance and maintain attendance records in student management system. Maintains and orders supplies for program. Monitors students in the area. Operates standard office equipment; fax, copier, computer, etc. Maintains office areas in a neat and orderly fashion. Receives and makes telephone calls, takes messages, provides general information and routes calls. Performs other related duties as assigned or apparent.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent. Office experience desired. Demonstrate excellent skills with computer applications of word processing, spreadsheet, database and data. Must have demonstrated ability to improve office efficiency through the use of technology.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS
None.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to communicate effectively with the public in oral and written capacity using proper grammar and usage. Ability to read and interpret written information for distribution within the school setting.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to perform mathematical operations and to reason mathematically in order to assist students requesting help at a 10th grade level.
REASONING ABILITY
When presented with complex situations, the employee is able to determine appropriate action.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Demonstrates empathy for at-risk learners. Ability to develop working relationship with staff, students and community. Demonstrate good listening skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment. Take direction from supervisor and classroom teachers as needed. Typing at 50 WPM is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Moderate amount of walking and standing. Performs multiple tasks. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment may be noisy and hectic at times and may contain the normal stresses associated with managing student behavior while assuring the safety and wellbeing of students and staff.
