Reinforce classroom instruction in English Language Arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and other content areas as assigned. Assist students with understanding academic vocabulary, classroom directions, assignments, and grade-level content. Support the development of students' English listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Provide targeted practice and intervention based on students' English language proficiency levels and academic needs. Utilize scaffolding strategies, visuals, modeling, graphic organizers, sentence frames, and other supports to increase student access to grade-level instruction. Encourage students to become increasingly independent learners rather than completing work for students. Assist teachers with implementing appropriate accommodations and instructional strategies for English Learners. Classroom Support Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to support English Learners during whole-group, small-group, and independent instruction. Help students understand classroom routines, expectations, assignments, and academic requirements. Reinforce schoolwide and classroom behavioral expectations. Support positive student behavior using proactive strategies and established school procedures. Assist with student transitions and supervision as assigned. Promote student engagement, participation, confidence, and self-advocacy. Maintain high academic and behavioral expectations while providing appropriate language supports. ELL Program Support Work closely with the ELL Coordinator to implement the school's English Learner program and services. Support students based on their identified English language proficiency levels and individual language-development needs. Assist with administering or coordinating English language proficiency assessments and other assessments as directed and permitted. Maintain accurate records of student services, interventions, instructional support, and progress as required. Assist with collecting student work samples and other evidence of academic and language growth. Support progress monitoring and communicate observations regarding student performance to the ELL Coordinator and classroom teachers. Participate in meetings regarding English Learners when requested. Maintain confidentiality of student educational records and information in accordance with FERPA and school policies. Collaboration and Communication Maintain regular communication with the ELL Coordinator, classroom teachers, intervention staff, and administration regarding student needs and progress. Participate in professional development related to English Learners, instructional strategies, school procedures, and student support. Collaborate professionally with staff to identify strategies that improve student achievement and English language development. Communicate respectfully and professionally with students, staff, and families. Support a welcoming and inclusive school environment that values students' languages, cultures, and backgrounds.
