Job Description

The Preschool Aide supports the classroom teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for preschool students. The aide assists with classroom instruction, supervision, routines, student needs, and daily classroom operations while helping students develop academic, social-emotional, communication, and independence skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist the classroom teacher with implementing daily lessons, learning centers, small-group activities, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences. Provide individual and small-group support to students under the direction of the classroom teacher. Actively supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, meals/snacks, recess, arrival, dismissal, and other school activities. Support students with age-appropriate self-help skills, including toileting, handwashing, dressing, eating, and cleaning up. Assist with diapering and toileting needs when required, following school health, sanitation, and safety procedures. Help maintain a clean, organized, welcoming, and safe classroom environment. Prepare instructional materials, classroom activities, displays, and learning centers as directed by the teacher. Reinforce classroom expectations, routines, and positive behavior using school-approved strategies. Model and reinforce the school's core values of Respect, Responsibility, Open-Mindedness, and Honesty . Encourage positive peer interactions, problem-solving, independence, and appropriate communication. Observe students and communicate relevant academic, behavioral, developmental, or safety concerns to the classroom teacher. Maintain student confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism when interacting with students, families, staff, and visitors. Follow all school procedures related to student safety, supervision, health, emergency preparedness, and mandated reporting. Assist with classroom cleaning and sanitation, including tables, learning materials, toys, and frequently used classroom areas. Participate in staff meetings, professional development, training, and school events as required. Perform other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or school administration. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience working with preschool or early childhood students preferred. Ability to meet all Arizona and school requirements applicable to preschool staff, including required background clearances and training. Knowledge of basic child development and developmentally appropriate practices preferred. CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification as required. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, and staff. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a classroom and school team. Dependable, patient, flexible, and able to respond appropriately to the needs of young children. Physical Requirements The Preschool Aide must be able to actively supervise young children throughout the school day. The position may require frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, sitting on the floor, reaching, and moving throughout the classroom and playground. The employee must be able to assist children with daily routines and safely respond to student needs and emergency situations. Working Relationships The Preschool Aide works closely with the preschool teacher, other classroom support staff, school administration, health staff, special education personnel, and other members of the school community to support the safety, development, and success of preschool students.
