At Serendipity School, Teaching Associates play an essential role in supporting the daily life, learning, and culture of the classroom. This position is designed for educators who are developing their practice and gaining hands-on experience within a progressive, inquiry-based school environment. Teaching Associates work closely with Lead Teachers and Specialists to support instruction, classroom routines, student engagement, and social-emotional growth. While the Lead Teacher holds primary responsibility for planning, assessment, and family communication, Teaching Associates are active and valued members of the classroom team. Core Responsibilities1. Instructional Support Support the Lead Teacher during whole group, small group, and individual instruction Work with students one-on-one or in small groups to reinforce learning Assist with hands-on, inquiry-based, and project-based classroom experiences Help students engage as active participants, problem-solvers, and collaborators Support student learning through observation, encouragement, questioning, and guided practice 2. Curriculum & Classroom Preparation Assist with preparing materials, organizing supplies, and setting up learning experiences Support integrated projects, classroom investigations, and thematic studies Help maintain documentation of student work, classroom displays, and project materials Bring curiosity, creativity, and initiative to classroom planning conversations when appropriate Support transitions, routines, and the smooth flow of the school day 3. Student Support & Differentiation Support individual students and small groups with academic, social, and emotional needs Help implement strategies, accommodations, and classroom routines as directed by the Lead Teacher and Learning Support Team Build warm, trusting relationships with students Notice and communicate student needs, strengths, and questions to the classroom team Encourage student independence, confidence, and self-advocacy 4. Classroom Community & Management Help create a classroom environment that reflects Serendipity's values of Individuality, Discovery, and Community Support Responsive Classroom practices and proactive behavior guidance Assist students with conflict resolution, collaboration, and self-regulation Model respectful, kind, and developmentally appropriate communication Help maintain a classroom culture that is inclusive, calm, engaging, and respectful Attend class Specials - World Language, Music and PE to support the Specialist Teacher 5. Observation, Documentation & Reflection Observe and share relevant student learning moments with the Lead Teacher Assist with collecting student work samples, photos, and classroom documentation Participate in classroom team conversations about student growth and support Reflect on teaching practice and seek feedback from Lead Teachers and supervisors Support portfolio or assessment-related documentation as needed, under the guidance of the Lead Teacher 6. Family & School Community Support Build positive and respectful relationships with families through daily warmth and professionalism Support classroom communication as directed by the Lead Teacher Participate in school events, classroom celebrations, and community-building experiences Represent the classroom and school with care, discretion, and professionalism Communicate family questions or concerns to the Lead Teacher or Director of Teaching & Learning Professional Growth Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and collaborative planning Actively seek and apply feedback from Lead Teachers and supervisors Develop classroom confidence through observation, practice, and reflection Strengthen understanding of progressive, inquiry-based education Grow in the ability to support instruction, classroom community, and student development Qualifications Bachelor's Degree preferred Prior experience working with children preferred Interest in education, child development, or progressive learning environments Strong collaboration, communication, and reflective practice skills Warm, patient, flexible, and professional presence with children and adults Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student-centered learning Interest in continued growth as an educator

Pay:

$28.00 - $30.00 per hour Expected hours: 22.5 - 29.0 per week
