Job Description

The City of Carson is now accepting applications for the position of Recreation Assistant III-Early Childhood Teacher's Aide This recruitment will remain open until vacancies are filled and may close without notice. Applications will be reviewed weekly. The City of Carson is seeking eligible candidates for the position of Recreation Assistant III - Early Childhood Teacher's Aide. The ideal candidate is a current or recent college student who enjoys working with children (pre-school age), in a fun and collaborative work environment. Part-time, working five days a week (Monday to Friday), 12 noon to 5:30 pm (includes a half hour unpaid lunch break). Schedule may vary between 12 noon to 5:30 PM.

Job Summary :
Under the direction of the Site Director and Child Care Teacher, assists in the daily instruction and presentation of activities for pre-school children at a day care site. This is a part-time position, and the work schedule may vary. This is an at will position. (These functions are representative and may not be present in all positions in the class. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind related duties and work assignments.) Assists in providing educational, recreational and other enrichment activities to pre-school children Provides a safe and positive learning environment Maintains instructional areas in a neat, clean and orderly condition Provides instructions, demonstrations and activities as appropriate to assigned age group Supervises students on educational and recreational excursions Participates in a variety of community and classroom activities and events Performs related duties as required.
Education and Experience:
Completion of thirty (30) college semester units which must include at least twelve (12) semester units of early childhood education (ECE) college courses, possession of a valid American Red Cross Standard First Aid certificate and one (1) year of leadership experience in early childhood programming.
Knowledge of:
Early childhood development theory, practice and programming; early childhood literature and developmental materials; developmental and appropriate activities for 3- to 5-year-old children; developmental programming presentation.
Skills and/or Ability to:
Learn the principles of supervision; learn and apply first aid, CPR and safety techniques; lead learning activities for early childhood development, growth and behavior; follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; effectively communicate orally and/or in writing; efficiently organize and prioritize work assignments.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Positions in this class normally are required to stand, stoop, reach and bend; required mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects; may be required to perform work which involves frequent lifting, pushing and/or pulling of objects which may be approximately 40 pounds and may occasionally weigh up to 60 pounds; is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
