QUALIFICATIONS
Valid California credential with an authorization to teach SDC (Moderate to Severe disabilities) in grades K-8 is required. English Language Learner authorization required. NCLB compliance required.
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the immediate direction of the Director of Special Education and supervision of the building Principal, is responsible for the educational program for identified pupils who have serious academic, behavioral, neurological and/or emotional problems which hinder progress in the regular classroom and who are placed in a special day class and to perform other duties directly related to this position description.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
1. Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students. 2. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students. 3. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like, to communicate these objectives to students. 4. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required. 5. Communicate with parents and district administration on pupil progress. 6. Identify pupil needs, and cooperate with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems. 7. Establish and maintain cooperative relations with others. 8. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence. 9. Maintain excellent attendance. 10. Other duties as assigned by the Principal.
