Paraprofessional Foundation for Hearing Research DBA Weingarten Children's Center Redwood City, CA Job Details Full-time $30 - $37 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Vision insurance Life insurance Qualifications Teamwork Collaboration Working with students Organizational skills Child Development Associate Certification Full Job Description Weingarten Children's Center (WCC) has a full -time position immediately available for an Early Childhood Educator. A bachelor's degree is a plus. WCC specializes in teaching children who are deaf or hard of hearing to listen and talk using Listening and Spoken Language (LSL). WCC has classes for infants and their caregivers, toddlers, preschoolers, pre-kindergarteners, TK and kindergarteners. Classes are small (6 - 12 students) with very favorable adult to child ratios (typically one adult to 3 or 4 students) with paraprofessional support. WCC is an energetic, fun and highly collaborative environment where students also learn critical thinking and social emotional skills. WCC also enrolls typically hearing peers, as well. As an OPTION Center of Excellence, our school and clinic provide high-quality, intensive services to promote and support the return of students to the mainstream school setting. The qualified candidate embraces a growth mindset and is willing to learn about all types of hearing technologies. WCC also offers a unique and supportive environment for those educators who are interested in working while earning their on-line Master's in Deaf Education. The passionate, interdisciplinary team at WCC includes an audiologist, occupational therapist, teachers of the deaf, paraprofessionals, speech-language pathologists and a social worker. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assist teachers to create engaging lessons/learning environment based on best practices, including material preparation, set-up and clean-up Assist with overall school organization, including creating and maintaining thematic environments, maintaining playground and other common space areas (e.g., picnic tables, toys, storage, library, etc.) and light office work (e.g., filing, copying, etc.) Support supervision of students during recess and/or lunch breaks Ensure safe transitions of students (e.g., from transportation vehicles) Help with bathrooming (e.g., potty training) needs of students Keep accurate student attendance and prepare injury/behavior incident reports, if necessary Collaborate with WCC staff to create student special days and events that provide fun, accessible learning for all students Communicate and partner with staff and families to promote student progress and overall well-being Seek out professional development opportunities to ensure valid credential/licensing and/or to grow within a center known for its standards of excellence Participate in one organization fundraiser and taking part in leadership activities that help the center run smoothly. Skills include, but not limited to: Experience working with young children with a strong interest in supporting students with language-based delays and mild-to-moderate disabilities Solid knowledge of child development and strategies for positive behavior management Willingness to learn about hearing technology to ensure student access to the curriculum (e.g., hearing aids, cochlear implants, and DM systems) Strong planning and organizational skills to support classroom teacher/s Initiative and strong sense of responsibility with excellent follow-through Effective written and verbal communication Collaborative, flexible and adaptable Energetic and enthusiastic
