We run like a homeschool pod: small groups, child-led learning, and an outdoor classroom where curiosity drives the day. Specialized visiting tutors round out our core teaching team, and our program is designed to grow year over year alongside the same children and families. The Opportunity This role starts small and grows. You'll begin at one day a week, giving you time to get to know our students, families, and teaching style. As our enrollment builds over the coming months, your schedule expands with it, up to full-time. It's a low-risk way for both of us to find the right long-term fit, and a strong option for an educator looking to grow into a full-time position with a program that will be part of these children's lives for years. What You'll Do Teaching & Curriculum Lead child-led, inquiry-based, and nature-based learning activities for kindergarten-aged children Plan hands-on lessons spanning literacy, math, science, art, and outdoor exploration Adapt instruction to each child's pace, interests, and learning style Partner with the Executive Director on lesson planning aligned to our program calendar and curriculum framework Collaborate with visiting specialist tutors for a cohesive learning experience Child Development & Relationships Create a safe, joyful, inclusive environment where every child feels seen Observe and document developmental progress and learning milestones Build lasting relationships with children and families as the program grows with them year over year Family & Community Communication Keep parents in the loop on their child's daily experience and progress Take part in parent check-ins and program community events Safety & Environment Maintain a safe, organized indoor and outdoor learning space Follow all program safety protocols and flag concerns promptly Hold current CPR and First Aid certification Supervise children attentively through all activities and transitions Help reset the space at day's end Team Collaboration Work closely with the Executive Director on program goals and consistency Join planning meetings and curriculum discussions Bring a growth mindset to feedback and professional development What You'll Bring Required Experience teaching or assisting in a kindergarten, early elementary, preschool, or similar early childhood setting Strong grasp of child development and developmentally appropriate practice Genuine enthusiasm for child-led, nature-based, inquiry-driven learning Comfort working independently as a 1099 contractor and managing your own professional obligations Strong communication skills with children, families, and colleagues Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain before start date Preferred California Teaching Credential (Multiple Subject or Early Childhood Education) Experience teaching kindergarten through 3rd grade, as our program grows with our students Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and verbal) Background in homeschooling, homeschool pods, microschools, or alternative education Familiarity with Waldorf, Reggio Emilia, Montessori, or outdoor/forest school philosophies Experience differentiating instruction across mixed ages or ability levels Knowledge of child development frameworks (e.g., Ages & Stages, Desired Results) Staff Tuition Benefit Team members with children are core to our community. Eligible instructors receive a full tuition waiver for their first enrolled child, plus a discounted rate for additional children (discussed at offer). This benefit runs for the duration of employment, subject to enrollment availability. Compensation $28-$38/hour based on experience. As a 1099 independent contractor, you're responsible for your own tax obligations. Hours increase as your schedule grows toward full-time.
