Job Description
Category Schools - Paraprofessional Job Type Contract The ESY Paraprofessional supports students with disabilities during the Extended School Year (ESY) program by assisting with academic instruction, behavioral support, social-emotional development, and daily classroom activities. The paraprofessional works under the supervision of certificated staff to help students maintain educational progress and support goals identified in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Key Responsibilities Provide direct instructional and behavioral support to students individually and in small groups Assist students in completing academic assignments and participating in classroom activities Implement teacher-directed accommodations, modifications, and behavior support plans Support students with communication, social skills, and emotional regulation Assist with transitions, mobility, and daily living skills as needed Supervise students during classroom activities, recess, lunch, field trips, and transportation loading/unloading Collect observational and behavioral data for teachers and service providers Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and support staff to meet student needs Follow district policies, confidentiality requirements, and student safety procedures Support students with toileting, feeding, or personal care when required by assignment Qualifications High school diploma or GED required Associate degree or college coursework in education, psychology, child development, or related field preferred Experience working with children or individuals with disabilities strongly preferred Ability to work effectively with students with diverse learning, behavioral, and communication needs Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills CPR/First Aid certification preferred Bilingual skills highly desirable in diverse school communities Preferred Experience Experience in special education classrooms or summer learning programs Familiarity with autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, emotional/behavioral disabilities, and developmental delays Experience implementing behavior intervention strategies or de-escalation techniques Knowledge of IEP supports and accommodations Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and assist students throughout the school day Ability to lift or assist students and materials in accordance with district safety guidelines Ability to respond quickly in emergency or behavioral situations Compensation Compensation varies by district and experience.
