Category Schools - Interpreter Job Type Contract Soliant is seeking a fluent ASL professional to provide dedicated 1:1 support to an elementary-aged student who is deaf/hard of hearing. This role goes beyond simply interpreting classroom instruction. The ideal candidate will use fluent ASL throughout the school day while providing warm, hands-on educational, communication, behavioral, and social-emotional support. certification: Not required, but given preference. Previous school or special education experience preferred Responsibilities Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day Use fluent ASL to provide reliable access to classroom instruction, communication, routines, peers, and school staff Provide active educational support beyond simply interpreting whole-group instruction Support the student's academic, developmental, communication, and social-emotional needs Rephrase, break down, and scaffold academic concepts to promote understanding and participation Assist with attention, engagement, redirection, transitions, and emotional regulation Use visual supports such as visual schedules, First-Then boards, and sensory breaks when appropriate Support the student's use of AAC and/or communication boards as needed Encourage participation in classroom activities while helping develop communication and social skills Help the student navigate classroom routines and transitions successfully Collaborate with the classroom teacher, DHH staff, speech/AAC providers, and IEP team members Help ensure the student has meaningful communication and educational access throughout the entire school day Provide a warm, positive presence and help the student feel supported, understood, and included What We're Looking For Fluent ASL skills are required — this is an essential qualification, not simply a preferred skill Previous experience working with students in a school or special education setting preferred Experience supporting students who are deaf/hard of hearing is a plus Ability to provide both ASL communication and hands-on educational support in a 1:1 setting Patient, warm, friendly, and encouraging approach to working with children Strong communication and collaboration skills Ability to support both academic learning and the student's social-emotional development EIPA or RID certification is not required Why This Role?
