Job Description

ASSOCIATE INSTRUCTOR
Laguna Blanca School is a college preparatory, coeducational day school located on two campuses in Santa Barbara, California. Grades EK-4 are located on a quaint campus in Montecito, while Grades 5-12 are located on Laguna's historic campus in idyllic Hope Ranch. Laguna Blanca emphasizes its core values of scholarship, character, balance, and community in its programs.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Main responsibilities include: collaborating with the lead instructor and specialist instructors with daily classroom instruction and group work; maintaining and supporting a pleasant, organized educational environment; assisting with the preparation of teaching materials; supervising lunch and recess; and chaperoning field trips.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with the Lead Instructor on instructional planning, teaching and student assessments. Share responsibility with the lead instructor for maintaining the classroom environment. (Organizing materials, designing bulletin boards, setting up learning centers and work areas, and photocopying materials) Promote student engagement in order to assess and encourage progress Support and strengthen the learning capabilities of each student by adapting and accommodating the curriculum to students' diverse learning needs Maintain a healthy learning environment for the students in both the classroom as well as in specialist classes and transition by monitoring and managing student behavior Provide student supervision such as lunch, recess, early arrival and dismissal - on a rotating basis Model appropriate behavior in speech and actions Participate in the "life of the school" through assemblies, admissions events, and student activities. Attend professional development days, faculty and staff meetings Seek and take part in professional development learning opportunities to enhance professional knowledge and educational training May be asked to provide learning support to students in other classrooms and grade levels. Act as the classroom instructor in the absence of the Lead Instructor

Participates as an ambassador of the school to build and support relationships with all key constituents. This support includes participating in a range of school functions including but not limited to admission, alumni, and family events.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to traverse school facility and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency Occasionally bend, stoop, squat and lift up to 40 lbs as part of job duties Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for school-related events or projects Have a current TB Assessment Must provide a clear fingerprint test and background check Have CPR and First Aid certifications or have the ability to become certified upon employment

QUALIFICATIONS
The most qualified applicants will have previous elementary classroom experience and must possess a strong desire to take an active role in the classroom. Candidates should be child centered, technologically proficient, and possess excellent communication skills. Bachelor's Degree and/or a California teaching credential is preferred.
COMPENSATION
Salary range $41,000 - $64,000 depending on experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision and retirement.
