Braillist Paraprofessional Transcription :
Convert print materials (textbooks, worksheets, assessments, handouts) into literary braille using Unified English Braille (UEB) and other applicable codes such as Nemeth for math/science
Material Adaptation :
Produce adaptive instructional materials per specifications from the Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI), including tactile graphics, enlarged print, and accessible layouts
Assist in implementing lessons, provide one‑on‑one or small‑group support, and help students access information and materials
Program & Resource Management :
Maintain braille, large‑print, and instructional material inventories; manage equipment; and coordinate with teachers and support staff
Collaboration :
Work closely with TVIs, classroom teachers, and other staff to ensure materials meet instructional needs and deadlines Job Qualifications for
Braillist Paraprofessional:
Certification :
Current Library of Congress Literary Braille certification; NCUEB preferred
Education :
High school diploma/GED plus braille training; some districts require associate's degree or 60+ credit hours
Experience :
2-3 years with children preferred; prior paraprofessional or braille transcription experience advantageous
Skills :
