The Elective Supervision Paraprofessional supports student success by providing supervision, structure, and guidance for students enrolled in online elective, independent study, and asynchronous learning opportunities.
This position helps create a productive learning environment where students remain engaged, make consistent academic progress, develop independent learning skills, and receive the support needed to successfully complete coursework while maintaining accountability to school expectations. The role serves as a key liaison between students, instructors, counselors, and school staff to ensure students are monitored, supported, and connected throughout their learning experience.
Position Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise and monitor students enrolled in online elective and independent study courses during assigned class periods.
Maintain a structured, productive, and positive learning environment that promotes student engagement and academic success.
Monitor student progress, participation, and completion of coursework in online learning platforms.
Assist students in navigating online course systems, accessing assignments, and meeting course deadlines.
Facilitate communication between students and independent study instructors regarding assignments, questions, concerns, and academic progress.
Monitor and support students during asynchronous postsecondary planning and independent work periods for junior and senior students.
Take and maintain accurate daily attendance records.
Identify and communicate student academic, attendance, behavioral, or engagement concerns to the counseling department and other appropriate staff members.
Encourage student accountability, organization, time management, and self-advocacy skills.
Assist with documentation, record keeping, and reporting related to student participation and progress.
Monitor student compliance with school expectations, technology usage guidelines, and classroom procedures.
Provide general supervision of students and ensure a safe and supportive learning environment.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Applicants must hold a high school diploma or a GED
Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
Successful experience in a K-12 school setting preferred
Hold an active substitute license with CDE (district will pay for this process)
A strong commitment to serving the unique strengths, needs, and aspirations of Lake County students.
