POSITION SUMMARY:
Seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Paraeducator to support a student with specific medical, communication, and developmental needs for the 2026-2027 school year. This position involves providing individualized support to ensure the student's academic, social, and personal needs are met throughout the school day.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitoring Health and Behavior
- Regularly monitor the student for any signs of discomfort, illness, or distress.
- Track the student's medical and behavior changes throughout the day and report any concerns to the supervising teacher or medical team.
- Keep records of any incidents, medical reactions, or changes in the student's condition.
Administering Medication:
- Assist with the administration of prescribed medications will be done under the training/supervision of the district nurse and any concerns need to be reported directly to the nurse.
- Follow any medical instructions provided by healthcare providers to ensure the student's safety and well-being.
- Maintain a medication log and ensure all medications are stored securely.
Feeding Support:
- Assist with feeding, including special feeding methods or equipment, if necessary.
- Follow any dietary restrictions or recommendations from the student's healthcare providers.
- Monitor and document any feeding difficulties, allergies, or reactions.
Mobility Assistance:
- Assist the student with moving around the school, ensuring they have access to necessary equipment like wheelchairs, walkers, or other mobility devices.
- Ensure the student's safety when transitioning between classrooms, the cafeteria, or other school areas.
- Provide physical assistance during physical education, recess, or other activities.
Sensory Support:
- Assist with managing any sensory processing needs, including providing sensory breaks or using sensory tools when needed.
- Help create a classroom environment that minimizes sensory overload and meets the students' sensory needs.
- Provide a calming space for the student to use when feeling overwhelmed.
Behavioral Support:
- Implement behavioral strategies and interventions, including following any behavior plans created by special education staff or behavioral specialists.
- Use positive reinforcement and maintain consistent routines to help the student stay engaged and regulated.
- Address challenging behaviors in a compassionate and non-punitive way, focusing on the student's emotional and developmental needs.
Collaboration with
Teachers and Specialists:
- Work closely with the student's teacher, speech therapist, occupational therapist, and other specialists to develop and implement an individualized plan for support.
- Attend meetings with the educational team to discuss the student's progress and any necessary adjustments to their learning or care plan.
- Participate in professional development and training to stay informed on best practices for supporting students with medical needs and disabilities.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Keep accurate and up-to-date records of the student's medical, educational, and behavioral progress.
- Document any incidents, accidents, or health-related concerns and report them to the appropriate school staff.
Emergency Response:
- Be prepared to respond to any medical emergencies, including the administration of first aid or CPR when necessary.
- Familiarize yourself with the student's medical history, emergency procedures, and any required actions in case of an emergency
- Ensure that emergency contact information is readily available and up to date.
Social and Emotional Support:
- Provide emotional support to the student to help them engage in social interactions and build relationships with peers.
- Encourage participation in classroom activities and support the development of social skills and self-confidence.
- Help facilitate peer interactions and encourage an inclusive environment within the classroom.
Adaptation of Classroom Activities:
- Modify or adapt classroom activities, lessons, and assignments to meet the student's specific needs, abilities, and learning style.
- Use assistive technology, if available, to support the student's participation in lessons.
- Ensure that all learning materials are accessible to the student, taking into account any visual, auditory, or mobility impairments.
Transportation and Transit Assistance:
- Ensure the student's safety during bus transportation, either by accompanying them or by assisting the bus paraeducator.
- Assist the student in boarding and disembarking the bus safely, ensuring their comfort and well-being during the ride.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of early childhood development and best practices in early childhood education.
- Ability to supervise and monitor students in both classroom and transportation settings.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral, to effectively engage with students, staff, and parents.
- Ability to take initiative, work independently, and demonstrate flexibility in meeting the needs of students and the program.
- Basic organizational skills and attention to detail in maintaining classroom materials and safety procedures.
- Ability to lift to 50 pounds and assist children with mobility and personal care needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree or higher, OR two years of verifiable college coursework (48 semester hours), OR the ability to successfully pass the WorkKeys proficiency test
- CPR and First Aid certifications are required.
- Valid Colorado Driver's License.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience in an early childhood education setting.
- Multilingual skills are a plus.
- Experience working with children with diverse learning needs.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- 9-month position with employee benefits package per district policy.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Physical ability to perform essential job functions, including standing, walking, sitting, and occasional lifting.
- Supervision of students in various settings, including classrooms, buses, and outdoor play areas.
