  • Highly qualified requirement: High school diploma or equivalent plus an Associate Degree, 48 college semester credits, or ParaPro PRAXIS/Workeys.
For those who do not have an Associate Degree, 48 college semester credits, or ParaPro PRAXIS/Workkeys, Westminster Public Schools offers an alternative method of meeting the highly qualified requirement through district sponsored classes and district assessment.
  • Must complete the SEPA training within 90 calendar days of employment.
  • Has experience or desire working with students who have emotional disabilities.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain First Aid/CPR, Crisis Prevention Institute certification or other necessary training to fulfill the position.
  • Has excellent oral, written communication, and student rapport-building skills.
  • Demonstrates competency in computer and keyboarding skills.
  • Has ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies and building and department procedures.
  • Has ability to communicate, interact, work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
  • Has ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
  • Has operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, E-mail.
  • Must pass various pre-employment background screenings.
  • Has experience working with diverse cultures, backgrounds abilities desirable.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To build trusting, positive working relationships with students.
  • To modify students\' assignments and tests in the general education classroom as well as implement their accommodations.
  • To assist Special Education Teacher by implementing small-group reading, writing, and/or math lessons.
  • To assist Special Education Teacher with monitoring and supervising students during school events (e.g., field trips, assemblies, lunch, etc.).
  • To assist Special Education Teacher or other certified staff by grading worksheets, documenting student needs, and/or monitoring student progress.
  • To follow the instructions made by the assigned SPED teacher(s).
  • Assist with medical needs of students as trained and directed by the School Nurse.
  • To perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
