Job Description
Introduction \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThe Boating Division has statewide, seasonal Boating Education Assistant (BEA) positions available. The duty station of these positions is DEEP Marine Headquarters located at 333 Ferry Road, Old Lyme, CT, however, the job duties are field-oriented and duty stations are throughout the state.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nBoating Education Assistants�\r\n\r\n\r\n Needed�May 15- October 15\r\n 40 hours per week. Work hours may vary daily. Monday through Friday with some evening and weekend work required.
\r\n\r\nRoles and responsibilities include:
\r\n\r\n\r\n Interacting with and educating boaters at boat launches throughout the state about clean and safe boating practices including pumpout locations, Aquatic Invasive Species information, No Discharge Areas, safety equipment and life jacket use;�\r\n Conducting vessel safety checks as developed by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary;\r\n Encouraging people to become Clean Boaters by having them sign the Clean Boater Pledge and discussing the Clean Boater Action Guide;\r\n Closing the parking lot if it becomes full;\r\n Reporting the condition of the boat launch;�\r\n Light maintenance at the boat launch;�\r\n Submitting weekly summaries detailing the use of the boat launch;�\r\n Assisting with public outreach events, as needed; and�\r\n Other duties, as assigned.�\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n \r\n \r\n \t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Selection Plan 1. ASSISTANT\r\n\r\n �Knowledge of boating\r\n �Required to work weekends and holidays\r\n\r\nSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
\r\n Incumbents in this class who are assigned as supervisors of small recreational units will perform emergency first aid as needed and will be required to obtain and retain a Basic First Aid Certificate.�\r\n Incumbents in this class may be required for certain positions to meet any of the following:\r\n \r\n Proof of possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator license.�\r\n Possession of a valid license to apply pesticides.�\r\n College training in a specific field.�\r\n Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification may be required by specific State facilities.�\r\n \r\n \r\n Incumbents performing lifeguard services must have and retain an American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguarding Certification (includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Basic First Aid). An EMT or MRT certification may be substituted for the CPR and First Aid requirements.\r\n\r\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 1.
Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class.\r\n2.
