Duties Under the direction of the Head Teacher and/or Assistant Teacher, the Teacher Aide provides care for children, meeting their basic physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs. As part of a team, they assist in providing care and implementing a developmentally appropriate program for an assigned age group. The Teacher Aide reports to the Head Teacher. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work with parents, staff and the community. Ensure the safety of children through constant supervision and proper maintenance of equipment. Ensure that child care routines are carried out in a manner that is prompt, hygienic, and consistent with good child development principles. This includes routines related to diapering, potty training, toileting, hand washing, eating, napping and transitioning between activities. Physically able and willing to interact with children in the indoor and outdoor environment. Supports the Head Teacher/Assistant Teacher in communication daily information to parents. Assist in maintaining daily records as assigned. Assist in environmental chores to maintain a pleasant, inviting classroom atmosphere in which children feel comfortable and secure. Participating in continuing education programs, staff meetings and SWCDC functions as required. Promotes effective working relationships and works cooperatively as a part of a team to facilitate the center's ability to meet its goals and objectives. Performs related duties as needed. Requirements CDA or minimum of 12 credits in Early Childhood Education Some experience working with young children. Completion of First Aid and CPR courses or willingness to complete required courses. Completion of Administration of Medication and Epi-Pen courses or willingness to complete required courses. Nice To Haves Knowledge of NAEYC standards and practices. Knowledge of Connecticut Early Learning and Developmental Standards (CT ELDS) Knowledge of Connecticut Documentation and Observation for Teaching System (CT DOTS)
