Building One Community (B1C) is a Stamford, Connecticut-based nonprofit supporting the successful integration of immigrants and their families. At B1C, immigrants acquire the tools they need to thrive. We provide free services that educate, employ, empower and engage immigrants and the broader community. Our programs include English Language classes, Family and Individual Support Services, Academic Enrichment Programs, Immigration Legal Services, and Workforce Development programs.

Academic Enrichment Manager Position Summary The Academic Enrichment Program Assistant supports the daily implementation of Building One Community's after-school program. This position works directly with elementary-age students, families and volunteers to create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment that supports students' academic, social-emotional, and developmental needs. The Program Assistant will assist with classroom management, student engagement and behavioral support, lesson preparation and facilitation. The position will also help identify student and family needs and connect families with appropriate Building One Community programs and community resources. Spanish language proficiency is highly preferred due to the need for regular communication and relationship-building with Spanish-speaking parents and caregivers. Essential Responsibilities

• Support daily supervision and classroom management of elementary-age students in a structured after-school environment.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with students and create an environment that promotes belonging, safety, respect, and engagement.
• Observe and document student behavioral, developmental, and academic needs.
• Assist with appropriate interventions and strategies to address behavioral, social-emotional, developmental, and academic concerns.
• Support students with homework, literacy activities, enrichment activities, and other program activities.
• Monitor student interactions and help resolve conflicts using developmentally appropriate and positive behavior-support strategies.
• Communicate significant student concerns to the Academic Enrichment Team and assist with follow-up as appropriate.
• Assist with planning, preparing, and facilitating academic and enrichment activities.
• Prepare classroom materials, supplies, and learning spaces before program sessions.
• Support implementation of established curricula and activities while adapting activities to meet students' needs.
• Establish positive, respectful relationships with parents and caregivers.
• Help identify barriers affecting students' academic, behavioral, social-emotional, or developmental success.
• Provide families with information about relevant Building One Community programs and community resources.
• Communicate with families in a culturally responsive and strengths-based manner. Spanish-speaking ability is highly preferred to support effective communication and engagement with Spanish-speaking families. Qualifications Required
• High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework or degree in education, child development, social services, psychology, or a related field preferred.
• Experience working with children, preferably elementary-age students.
• Experience supporting children in an educational, recreational, youth development, or community-based setting.
• Ability to establish positive relationships with children, families and volunteers
• Commitment to working with children and families from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Highly Preferred
• Spanish language proficiency.
• Experience working with multilingual families.
• Experience with classroom management or positive behavioral interventions.
• Coursework or experience in education, social work, psychology, child development, counseling, or a related field.
