Purpose of the Teacher Assistant The teacher assistant supports the classroom teacher in fostering a positive, engaging, and Christ-centered learning environment that supports Advent School's mission of developing confident, capable, Christian leaders. The Teacher Assistant serves students with a heart of service, reinforces academic and behavioral expectations, and models the love and character of Christ in all interactions. Qualifications Must successfully pass a background check and drug screening. Must be able to adhere to the Advent Teacher Code of Ethics. Demonstrate a commitment to the mission, vision, values, and faith-based philosophy of Advent School. Possess a genuine love for children and a desire to support their academic, social, emotional, and spiritual growth. Exhibit strong Christian character and serve as a positive role model for students. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with students, parents, faculty, and staff. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality. Experience working with children required. Working toward a degree in Education or a related field preferred. Previous experience working with elementary-aged students preferred. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively. Excellent time management skills and the ability to complete assignments and projects in a timely manner. Demonstrate flexibility, dependability, initiative, and attention to detail. Basic technology proficiency, including Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, and Classroom) and educational software platforms. Ability to follow directions, implement teacher-directed instructional activities, and support lesson delivery. Ability to assist with instructional activities and small-group or individual student support. Ability to maintain a safe, positive, and orderly learning environment and support classroom management procedures. Ability to handle student concerns, behavioral challenges, and emotional situations with patience, sensitivity, and discretion. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and school matters. Ability to supervise students in classrooms, hallways, lunch periods, recess, field trips, and other school activities. Ability to stand, walk, circulate, and actively supervise students for up to 75% of the workday. Ability to supervise students outdoors for up to 40% of the workday and work in varying weather conditions. Ability to move from standing, sitting, kneeling, crouching, and floor-level positions while working with children. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 40 pounds. Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification required. Duties and Responsibilities The duties of a teacher assistant are multifaceted and can vary depending on the specific needs of the teacher, grade level, and individual classrooms. However, some common purposes and responsibilities of a teacher assistant include: Work Schedule Monday-Friday 7:25 AM-3:25 PM Full-time (40 hours/week); however, may be required to work an evening or weekend day to attend an Advent event or assist with a special project. Instructional Support Assist the classroom teacher in implementing daily lesson plans, learning activities, and instructional objectives. Provide academic support to individual students and small groups through reinforcement, intervention, accommodations, modifications, and enrichment activities as directed by the teacher. Assist students with assignments, projects, technology-based learning platforms, and classroom routines. Prepare instructional materials, classroom resources, and learning centers as requested by the teacher. Assist with grading, filing, copying, organizing materials, laminating, and maintaining student records as directed. Classroom Environment and Student Support Support the teacher in maintaining a positive, Christ-centered, safe, and orderly learning environment. Reinforce classroom expectations, routines, and behavior standards consistent with school policies and classroom procedures. Foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where all students feel equally valued, respected, and encouraged. Build positive relationships with students while modeling Christian values, integrity, kindness, and respect. Assist students with spiritual and social-emotional needs. Encourage appropriate conflict resolution and responsible decision-making. Student Supervision and Safety Actively supervise students throughout the school day to ensure their safety and well-being. Assist with supervision during arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, chapel, special events, field trips, and other school activities as assigned. Monitor student behavior and promptly communicate all concerns to the classroom teacher or administration. Follow all school safety procedures, emergency protocols, and child protection policies. Classroom Operations Assist with classroom organization, bulletin boards, displays, and maintenance of instructional spaces. Maintain a clean, organized, and functional classroom environment. Assist with cleaning and sanitizing student workspaces and shared classroom areas as needed. Support Specials teachers and other staff members with student supervision and classroom management when requested. School Community and Professional Responsibilities Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, dependability, flexibility, and a heart for service in all interactions. Collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, staff, students, and families. Attend required staff meetings, professional development sessions, faculty worships, devotionals, and school events. Adhere to all school policies, procedures, and professional dress code expectations. Serve as a substitute teacher, office assistant, or in other support roles as assigned by administration. Support the spiritual development of students by modeling Christian values, participating in prayer and devotional activities, and reinforcing biblical principles appropriate to the classroom setting Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal or designee. Performance Evaluation Performance is evaluated through a combination of the primary teacher's evaluation survey and the principal's beginning of the year and end of the year evaluation review to ensure well-rounded feedback and professional growth.
