Job Description
The Program Assistant participates in the development and implementation of educational programs in relation to the permanent collection and special exhibitions at the Historic Courthouse. Promotes Citrus County and Florida history by conducting educational tours with interpretive materials, for the Citrus County Educational Systems and the public. Works directly with volunteers to provide high level of customer service to visitors. The schedule for this full-time position is Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and is located at the Historical Courthouse, Inverness, Florida. Citrus County:
Citrus County Government and Official Guide to Crystal River and Citrus County, Florida Takes and processes reservations for school programs and adult groups. Performs routine office tasks including, but not limited to, answering phones, typing correspondence, filing, and assisting citizens, visitors, and volunteers. Coordinates and/or participates in community outreach programs including, but not limited to, developing, implementing innovative public and school outreach programs. Establishes and maintains a professional and welcoming atmosphere for visitors. Maintains partnerships with schools to offer curriculum-based programming in correlation to State standards related to Citrus County history, pre-history, and the environment, including architecture, archives, and preservation. Assists in developing and updating training programs for volunteer docent tour guides. Coordinates educational tours for schools and community groups. Prepares and reviews promotional copy for educational programs including, but not limited to, press releases, flyers, and notices of events. Participates in the design of exhibits and other public programming to enhance the museum's educational value including, but not limited to, scanning, printing, and fabrication of text and photos, research, and audience evaluations. Prepares school and teacher resource kits and resource materials. Assists with community relations such as advocacy, coalition-building and public programming activities including, but not limited to, teaching museum-based programs/tours as necessary. Provides interdepartmental support through performance of various operational tasks, following established procedures as required. Assists with fund raising and preparation of grants development (income- generation). Works evening and weekends for certain events hosted by the Historical Museum, as needed. Performs other duties as required. Education, Training, and Experience High School Diploma or GED equivalent. College degree and/or experience in history/cultural, museum studies, education, or related field preferred. Two (2) years of experience performing administrative/clerical duties, program/project coordination, marketing and/or event planning. Skills and Abilities Excellent customer service and communication skills, effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) in a clear, confident manner using proper grammar. Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and cooperate with others as part of a team. Must have strong planning and organizational skills to plan, prioritize, multi-task and independently execute projects/tasks within specific deadlines while maintaining flexibility. Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public. Must have strong working knowledge of computers and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of Products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) including extensive knowledge and experience with Excel functions and detailed spreadsheets. Certificates, Licenses, and other Requirements Valid Florida Driver License (or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida), or valid Florida Identification Card is acceptable only for positions not required to drive a county vehicle. Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses: IS-100.c:

An Introduction to the National Incident Management System Physical Requirements/Work Environment Requires sitting most of the day. The job involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 20 pounds. The job requires frequent bending, balancing, and occasional squatting, kneeling, twisting, and reaching above shoulders. The job requires the completion of tasks that involve typing, simple grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manual manipulation. The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, depth perception and color vision, hearing, and speaking.
