Space Coast Discovery Position Overview Space Coast Discovery is seeking a compassionate, patient, and dedicated Assistant Teacher who is passionate about supporting children with diverse learning needs and abilities. The ideal candidate believes that every child has the potential to succeed and is committed to creating an inclusive, nurturing, and engaging learning environment where all students can grow and thrive. This role requires an individual who is calm, flexible, and supportive, and who is willing to meet students where they are academically, socially, and emotionally. The Assistant Teacher will work closely with the Lead Teacher and school staff to support individualized learning and help foster a positive classroom culture rooted in respect, empathy, and growth. Key Responsibilities Support the Lead Teacher in creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment Demonstrate compassion, empathy, and a genuine desire to support students with diverse learning needs Maintain a gentle yet firm approach to classroom management and student support Exhibit patience and the ability to remain calm in challenging or high-energy environments Treat all students with respect and without prejudice, fostering a welcoming and supportive atmosphere Support individualized learning plans and adapt to various learning styles and abilities Assist with small group instruction, one-on-one support, and classroom activities Build positive, trusting relationships with students, staff, and families Collaborate with teachers and support staff to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of students Demonstrate strong communication, observation, and problem-solving skills Maintain professionalism, reliability, and consistency in the classroom Assist with classroom organization, transitions, and daily routines Support students in developing independence, confidence, and positive behavior skills Remain flexible and adaptable in environments that may sometimes feel busy, noisy, or fast-paced Must pass required background screening https://info.flclearinghouse.com and meet DCF compliance requirements Additional Responsibilities Support students with disabilities by providing one-on-one or small group instruction in literacy, math, communication skills, and other core subjects Utilize specialized techniques, including American Sign Language (ASL) Support classroom behavior using positive behavior management strategies and effective classroom management techniques Assist with lesson planning, curriculum development, and preparation of classroom materials Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and families to monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed Help create a structured, supportive, and engaging learning environment for all students Qualifications & Requirements Prior experience working with children in classroom settings, including preschool, private school, or early childhood environments preferred Knowledge of special education practices, including familiarity with IEP processes and classroom accommodation Experience working with students with developmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), preferred Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with students, staff, families, and specialists Background in early childhood education, child development, childcare, or related field preferred Ability to implement positive behavior management and classroom management strategies confidently Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children of diverse backgrounds and abilities in inclusive settings Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is highly desirable but not required Ideal Candidate Qualities Passion for working with children of varying abilities and learning styles Strong patience and emotional awareness Positive, encouraging, and supportive demeanor Team-oriented and collaborative mindset Flexible and adaptable to student and classroom needs Reliable, professional, and consistent Compassionate and student-centered approach to learning Why Join Space Coast Discovery?
