Specific classrooms will be assigned depending on experience and qualifications. Teacher assistants are required to assist lead teachers and sometimes relieve them for breaks in all age groups from infant to five years of age. Typically you will engage in a wide variety of activities including teaching social skills and personal hygiene, introducing music, colors, shapes and numbers, as well as helping children develop language and motor skills. Teacher assistants help lead the children in outdoor and indoor play activities. Attend to the basic needs of young children, such as serving them food and beverages and diaper changes. The DCF mandated minimum 45 hours of training is not required to start but will be required to be completed within a set time period. Any additional qualifications would be an advantage. Some general housekeeping activities will be allocated - typically cleaning and tidying classrooms to maintain hygienic standards. Suitable applicants will be encouraged to attend classes to further their education and career in early childhood education. Part-time (up to 30 hours per week) opportunities are available. Part-time positions are eligible for more hours after initial training and as substitutes for full-time staff. Position is perfect for those in school. Part-time hours can begin as early as 11 AM and end as late as 6 PM.
