Job Description
SUMMARY - JUNIOR CAMP COUNSELOR
: This is paraprofessional work involving recreational activities. The incumbent in this classification assists in supervising various facilities including gyms, parks and other meeting sites. Major job functions include monitoring program participants and preparing facilities for programming. Work is performed in various locations throughout Douglas County.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include but are not limited to: Assisting guests and callers with park programs, special events and other related parks and recreation matters: Answering questions quickly, professionally, and pleasantly Referring guests and callers to appropriate staff member if necessary Logging and forwarding messages, requests, or complaints to appropriate staff member Interacting with individuals utilizing the park and related facilities: Maintaining a professional, friendly, efficient, and safe environment at all times Maintaining clean and organized environment Providing clear explanation of rules, regulations, and standards Monitoring activities of Park and other facilities Responsible for monitoring and ensuring proper guest behavior Responsible for clean up of activities Abiding by and enforcing safety guidelines and requirements Completing Incident Reports for any injuries or incidents as needed and submitting to supervisor immediately Reporting any and all problems immediately to supervisor and/or security as needed Providing basic First Aide, reporting to supervisor and/or security as needed Assisting in activities, special events, et cetera Assisting in special event planning and production Assisting Park Staff in transporting groups during field trips, special events, et cetera All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents Performing other duties as assignedQUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

High School student who has successfully completed their Junior Year of High School One year experience working with children or individuals with disabilities in a recreational setting; or One year of Volunteerism in a similar Camp Program An equivalent combination of education and experience may be consideredELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Must be 16 years of age or olderCERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License (Class C) and a satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR) if assigned job duties requiring the use of a vehicle American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED certified Other duty-specific certifications may be required during employment to satisfy specific assigned duties and responsibilitiesKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of or ability to learn county and department operations, ordinances, policies, procedures, terminology, and materials as they relate to assignment Knowledge of business English, spelling, and grammar Knowledge of basic business mathematics: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division Knowledge of standard clerical procedures and modern office practices, methods, and equipment Knowledge of professional childcare supervisory methods and practices Knowledge of program participants' interests, abilities, and behavior Skill in creating, maintaining, and organizing accurate, detailed, and complete records in accordance with standard record-keeping procedures Skill in effective inter-personal and public relations and customer service; excellent oral and written communication skills to satisfactorily resolve conflicts and issues, and to explain established policies and procedures to the general public Skill in handling and operating all assigned equipment, tools, and/or vehicles in a safe and proficient manner Skill in performing tasks which require attention to detail, and completing assigned jobs efficiently and correctly Skill in the use of personal computers, MS Office Suite, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing; typing and entering data into a computer system accurately and efficiently Ability to apply common sense to understand, follow, and complete verbal and written instructions Ability to communicate and interact clearly and effectively with all those contacted in the course of work in a professional and courteous manner, both orally and in writing; establishing and maintaining effective, professional, and cordial working relationships Ability to demonstrate compassion and respect in client interactions, with disabled individuals and others needing special assistance; ability to deal effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds Ability to handle confidential information professionally and to exercise discretion in performing assigned job duties; inability to maintain confidentiality will be grounds for dismissal Ability to provide instruction and direction Ability to read and comprehend routine instructions, short correspondence and memos Ability to resolve routine and non-routine problems and complaints by applying or adapting established policies and procedures Ability to count and balance monies collected Ability to teach and lead children and the special needs population Ability to work in a team setting Ability to work under stress and during emergency situationsSalary:
