Job Description

FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY
(FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Cooperative Extension/SARE Program Assistant. Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area. JOB SUMMARY T
he Coopera t ive E xt ens i on/SARE Program Assistant will assist the Project I nvestigator (SARE)/Program Leader in plann i ng, organizi n g, and delivering educational prog r ams through the Cooperative Extension System . In additio n to helping prepare tra ini ng mater i als, presentations, an d hando u ts, the candidate will assist with coordinating workshops, meetings, Fie l d D ays and other commu ni ty eve nt s .
MAJOR DUTIES
Schedule meetings and maintain records Manage p r ogr a m suppl i es and materials Event planning a n d wo r kshop coo r di n ation Assist with reporting on project activities (virtual and face-to•face)
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Wo r k will take place in an office location•frequently Workdays will take p l ace on weekdays & occasional weekend (confere n ces and mee t ings) Working outdoors in va r ious cl i mates, hot and cold•occasionally
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The ca n di d ate will frequently be required t o work in an office se tt i n g . On occasio n , the can d idate will be required to work outdoors in ag r icul tu ral e n viron m en t s i n the s t ate of Georg i a with temperatures ranging from 40-90° F . Specific vision abilities required by t his j ob in clude close vi s i on, di stance vis i on, color vision, perip h eral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. T h e candidate m u st have the ability to stand or walk for extended periods during events, wo r ks h ops, or community outreach activit i es .
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Strong communication skills Experience with workshops, training sessions, or outreach programs Knowledge of the following topics in Sustainable Agriculture Crop production systems Soil hea lt h and co n servation Forestry/Ecology management Agricultural Tec h nology P est management st r ategies Renewable Energy Basic research and data collect i on skills Abili ty to ass i st wi t h field t rails or demonstration plots
