A Day in the Life A typical day as a Special Education Paraprofessional with Griffin Spalding County Schools begins with arriving at your assigned school and checking in with the lead teacher or staff coordinator to understand the day's schedule and any specific student needs. Throughout the day, you will assist in preparing instructional materials and setting up the physical learning environment, ensuring that classrooms are ready and welcoming for students. You will supervise students during both instructional and non-instructional periods — such as transitions, lunch, and recess — while also providing individual and small-group instructional support to reinforce skills taught by the classroom teacher. You may work one-on-one with students who require additional attention, helping them navigate assignments, build confidence, and develop critical academic and social skills. You will also assist with testing and evaluation activities to help gauge student progress and may provide enrichment or remedial support as needed throughout the day. Success in this role looks like a student who feels seen, supported, and empowered — and a classroom team that runs smoothly because you showed up ready, professional, and prepared to make a difference. Responsibilities Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and the physical learning environment to support daily classroom activities. Support teachers in planning and preparing for both group and individual student activities tailored to diverse learning needs. Supervise students during instructional and non-instructional periods, including transitions, lunch, and other school activities. Provide individual and small-group instructional support to reinforce skills and concepts introduced by the lead teacher. Deliver enrichment and remedial assistance to students as required, adapting support strategies to meet each student's unique needs. Assist with testing and evaluation processes to help monitor and document student progress and development. Participate in activities that promote positive interaction and engagement within the instructional process. Maintain open and professional communication with teachers, school staff, and administrators to ensure consistent and coordinated student support. Requirements Required ! Must be 21 years of age or older. ! High School Diploma or GED is required. ! Completion of a Georgia Gemalto background check is required prior to placement. ! Completion of required Substitute Training is required before beginning work. ! Acknowledgment and compliance with the Griffin Spalding Employee Handbook is required. ! Must be able to lift heavy objects up to 65 lbs. ! Must be able to work on an on-call or substitute basis with flexibility in scheduling. ! Must maintain a punctual, professional demeanor and appearance at all times while on assignment. Preferred Associate's Degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field is preferred. Passing scores on the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment are preferred and may be required depending on assignment. Prior experience working with children, particularly those with special needs or diverse learning requirements, is strongly preferred. Familiarity with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and experience supporting students in a special education setting is a plus. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a friendly, approachable attitude toward students, families, and staff.
