Job Description
Job Goal:
To assist the teacher in maintaining appropriate classroom activities and environment in order that students may learn effectively.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED certificate.
Demonstrated aptitude for work to be performed.
Hold an associate's degree or higer in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution; or
Have completed two (2) years of college coursework (60 semester hours) above the remedial level with a grade of "C" or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution or
Passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Prompt and regular attendance.
In person classroom instruction. Maintain the confidentiality of all student records, reports, and other documentation
Assists teachers with the clerical duties, grading papers, preparing materials, typing and/or reproducing documents.
Assists teacher with bulletin boards
Assist students with health care procedures including hygiene and daily care
Assist students with physical needs including but not limited to feeding, toileting, repositioning, and mobility as needed
Works with individual pupils and/or small groups to reinforce skills taught by teacher.
Supervises groups or individuals at times when the principal deems it necessary for the teacher to be in a professional meeting or at other times designated by the supervisor
Accompanies groups on field trips under the supervision of the teacher when such trips are authorized for educational purposes
Assists teachers and the school program by helping with other tasks as assigned by the supervisor
Assists in supervising pupils before, during, and after school
Attend professional learning and staff development activities as needed
Performs such other assignments and duties as assigned by the supervisor and Superintendent of Schools
Physical Requirements:
Able to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities including:
Medium Work:
Exerting 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds as needed to move objects.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the principal in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on classified evaluation.
