Under general supervision, serves as a support to the assigned classroom teacher or instructional area in providing educational opportunities for each student within various disciplines (Media, Special Education, In School Suspension, Bilingual, Pre-K, Band, Remedial programs etc.) This position reports to the Principal or designee.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides support to selected students in resource, self-contained, regular classroom and/or in school suspension settings, etc. Conducts small group or individual classroom activities with students based on lesson plans developed by the teacher. Provides language translations service as needed. Assists with preparation of materials for instruction (including the copying/duplicating of materials, construction of bulletin boards, grading work, etc.). Performs special duties as required for meeting the unique needs of specific student populations; e.g., lifting physically disabled students, toileting/personal hygiene assistance, using physical restraints or other specialized behavior management techniques. Types and processes correspondence, reports, orders, circulation, and catalog cards. Operates the computerized circulation system and records. Files catalog cards, vertical file material, and order cards. Assists in inventory of materials and equipment. Assumes responsibility for operation of the media center and supervision of students in the approved absence of the media specialist Assists with routine record keeping, housekeeping; assists with school-wide supervision such as loading/unloading buses. All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS
Must meet one of the following requirements: 1. Hold an associate's degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution. OR 2. Have completed two (2) years of college coursework (sixty [60] semester hours or [90] quarter hours) above the remedial level with a grade of "C" or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution. OR 3. Have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Paraprofessional experience serving school age children desirable. •Bilingual or bicultural experience required for certain positions. Makes recommendations or decisions, which usually affect the classroom. Paraprofessional certification as mandated by the Professional Standards Commission required.Note:
The Board of Education will apply for the Paraprofessional Certification for qualified candidates upon completion of orientation. CPR/First Aid Course required. Light independent judgment is necessary. Decisions made on an as-needed basis to establish operation of the office. Requires regular, frequent communication with internal school administrative personnel. Requires regular, frequent communication with different constituencies: external agencies, parents, community etc. Applies, recommends and implements technology to improve the effectiveness of school operations. Constant Daily Normal classroom setting in a school.Special Education Classes:
Trained in special needs of disabled population including; first aid, ability to perform a two person lift for students as needed, behavior management. Additional paper work required.Note:
Bilingual Para positions support the Office of Second Language Learning or other positions (Bilingual Paraprofessional) as assigned. Title Para positions must be involved directly with instruction. Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. Moderate lifting or carrying of up to 50lbs.NOTE:
This is a grade 16, 190-day position that starts at a step 6 and pays for experience up to a step 8.Position Type:
