Hourly Rate:
$17.50/hour (Special Education Paraeducator) $16.25/hour (Regular Education Paraeducator) Employees who are hired to work 30 or more hours per week are eligible for group insurance and health benefits. This position is posted as special education paraeducator, but some positions might be general education paraeducators. This posting will remain active until April 30, 2027, or until all positions are filled
Scope:
Support classroom teachers by providing physical and/or instructional assistance to students with disabilities in special education settings. Reports to: Director of Special Education, Building Administration, Teacher(s)
Qualifications:
Required High School Diploma or equivalent. Preferred Experience working with children/adolescents with disabilities. Valid Iowa Paraeducator Certificate. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Performance Responsibilities:
Work as a team member with special education teachers. Assist students individually or in small groups to support IEP goals. Provide instructional, behavioral, and physical support as directed. Assist with personal care, health, and mobility needs when required. Document IEP progress and maintain required records. Alert teachers to special needs or concerns regarding students. Serve as an appropriate role model. Maintain confidentiality at all times. Perform other duties as assigned.
Term of Employment:
This is a regular-time, 10-month position. The employee is scheduled to work a minimum of thirty (30) hours per week during the school year. Employment is subject to the provisions of Board policy, state and federal law, and the terms outlined in the Paraeducator Department Booklet of the Employee Handbook.
Physical Requirements:
The employee must be able to perform physically demanding tasks associated with the paraeducator role. This includes frequent walking and standing; lifting, transferring, or physically assisting students; pushing or pulling wheelchairs, carts, or equipment; bending, kneeling, and squatting; and sustained fine motor tasks to support instructional and personal care activities. Pre-employment job-specific testing is required to ensure capability.

Lifting/Carrying:
Occasionally up to 100 lbs.; frequently 25-40 lbs.; constantly lighter repetitive lifting
Pushing/Pulling:
Maximum of 60 lbs. force
Dynamic Lifting Values:
Floor to Knuckle 100 lbs.; 12" to Knuckle 40 lbs.; Knuckle to Shoulder 10 lbs.; Shoulder to Overhead 10 lbs; Push 60 lbs.; Pull 60 lbs.
Bending/Reaching:
Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, reaching, and sustained postures at student level
Hand/Finger Dexterity:
Frequent grip, pinch, and fine motor use for instructional materials, equipment, and documentation
Repetitive Tasks:
Frequent walking, standing, and repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday
