Part-Time Special Education Paraeducator
$18/hour | Online/Hybrid | Empowering Excellence Charter School
About Empowering Excellence Charter School
Empowering Excellence Charter School is an Iowa public charter school serving high school students through a flexible online learning model. Our approach combines individualized instruction, consistent mentoring, responsive student support, and meaningful relationships to help students make progress toward graduation and their postsecondary goals.
The Job
We're looking for a part-time special education paraeducator who is great with kids, comfortable with technology, and believes relationships matter just as much as academics.
We're not a traditional high school—and this isn't a traditional para job.
Our students sometimes need an extra person in their corner: someone to help them get organized, show up, work through frustration, stay engaged, and realize they can be successful.
What You'll Do
Work one-on-one and in small groups with students receiving special education services
Support instruction and IEP goals under the direction of licensed staff
Help students stay organized, engaged, and on track
Provide encouragement, redirection, and behavioral support when needed
Connect with students through video, phone, messaging, and in person
Track progress and communicate with teachers and families
Be a consistent, positive adult students can count on
Who We're Looking For
Someone who is patient, dependable, tech-friendly, flexible, and really good at connecting with teenagers.
And because we're a small team, being a great teammate matters. We want someone who jumps in, communicates, asks questions, shares ideas, and helps where needed. You also need to be coachable—open to feedback, willing to try a different approach, and always looking for ways to get better at supporting students.
Experience in special education, behavior support, or online learning is a plus. Iowa paraeducator certification is preferred, but we're also interested in the right person who is willing to learn.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
