Position Summary An Instructional Assistant supports Storm Lake Community School District's commitment to ensuring all students achieve at grade level by assisting with instruction and supervising students in a safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment. This role works under the direction of the classroom teacher to support student learning, maintain routines, and foster positive relationships. Assignment Options Instructional Assistant positions may be available in: Preschool Early Elementary (K–1) Elementary (2–5) Middle School (6–8) High School (9–12) Assignments are determined based on district needs, student needs, and employee qualifications. Essential Responsibilities Student Support & Learning Assist students individually or in small groups with academic and behavioral support as directed by the teacher Help students stay engaged and participate in classroom activities Support implementation of teacher-provided lesson plans and routines Relationships & Culture Help maintain a safe, orderly, and inclusive environment that values students' cultures and identities Build positive relationships with students to support engagement and behavior Reinforce classroom expectations and positive behavior supports Classroom & Supervision Supervise students in classrooms and during transitions (hallways, lunch, recess, etc.) Assist with the organization and cleanup of materials and activities Follow all school procedures and staff directions Professional Expectations Maintain confidentiality and follow FERPA guidelines Demonstrate reliability, flexibility, and professionalism Adapt to different classrooms and student needs Support the district's commitment to a student-centered environment Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Experience working with children preferred Ability to follow directions and adapt to different settings Mandatory reporter training for child abuse (or willingness to obtain)
