Students as assigned by building administration
FLSA Status:
Non-exempt, 10-month position with salary placement in accordance with the District's Classified Salary Schedule. The position includes, one (1) sick day per month, and four (4) personal leave days annually. This position includes a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance; participation in the Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI).

JOB GOAL
The Media Technician paraprofessional directs the operation of and provides the services of a secondary school library. Duties include instructing and/or tutoring students in basic library skills and functions and providing support and assistance to the teaching staff. The principal duties of the position are performed in a library/classroom center environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Meet Idaho Code 08.02.02.007.10 Paraprofessional requirements, which require at least a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) and: Demonstrate through a state-approved academic assessment knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing or preparing students to be instructed as applicable to the academic areas they are providing support in or two(2) years of study at an accredited postsecondary educational institution or obtained an associate degree or higher -level degree.
Knowledge of:
Basic library functions, operations, and objectives; Instructional methods, procedures, and objectives, including classroom instruction and presentation, lesson plans, curriculum implementation, educational software, testing and grading, and classroom management; Computer and automated cataloguing, circulation, and search systems; Operation and maintenance of specialized library equipment, including audio/visual equipment; Basic accounting and cash handling methods.
Ability to:
Operate and maintain a school library; Implement curriculums, instruct students, and manage a classroom; Operate specialized library computer equipment and programs; Operate standard office equipment, including a personal computer using program applications appropriate to assigned duties; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers and staff members, and other District personnel; Observe District policies and procedures; Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; Perform multiple tasks simultaneously, including handling interruptions, and return to and complete tasks in a timely manner; Perform time management and scheduling functions, meet deadlines, and set task priorities; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers and staff members, and other District personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
(or other duties assigned by the Superintendent or Board). Performs library functions including, but not limited to, checking books and materials in and out, assisting students and staff in locating books and research materials, checking audio/visual equipment in and out, inventorying books and related library materials, reading to students, and maintaining the library in a neat and orderly manner; Instructs and supervises students in basic library functions and skills, including cataloguing and computer use; Instructs and supervises students and staff in library use, including locating appropriate materials in and beyond the library, research, using electronic databases, internet resources, and peripheral equipment; Monitors and documents student progress, reviews and corrects papers, issues grades, and maintains student documentation; Trains, supervises, and documents work of student assistants; Coordinates with teachers and schedules library use time; Follows and implements District library instruction curriculum; Maintains bulletin boards, exhibits, and related displays; Performs level testing of students; Maintains inventory of books, magazines, and related library materials, including ordering supplies; Consults with teachers and staff on ordering materials and maintains required reading and instructional materials; Evaluates, selects, and orders library materials; Inventories and performs minor maintenance on books, audio/visual equipment, and other library materials; Instructs in use of audio/visual and other presentation equipment; Collects fines on overdue, lost, and damaged materials; Supervises book fairs and other designated special events; Participates in appropriate training, workshop, and in-service programs; Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies, procedures, and safety practices; Maintains student and District confidentiality.
OTHER RELATED DUTIES
Performs teacher assistant, lunchroom, bus, and other monitoring duties as assigned; Performs other duties as assigned.
EVALUATION
The performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on the Evaluation of Classified personnel.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to: Communicate effectively on the telephone and in person and hear sounds within the normal range of conversation; Prepare and review documents and process them in a prescribed order, and organize documents and materials; Operate a keyboard or type, handle materials, and operate standard office equipment and specialized library equipment; Lift or move objects that weigh up to 30 lbs.; Perform repetitive hand movement in gripping, and hand/wrist/arm movements. Related job tasks may require, with or without reasonable accommodation, standing, sitting, lifting, stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, crouching, pushing, grasping, and reaching. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
All classified employees of the Minidoka County School District #331, including those in this position, are "at will" employees, meaning employment may be terminated by either the employer or employee at any time for any reason, consistent with applicable state or federal law. This job description/classification specification does not constitute an employment agreement and is subject to change as the needs of the District and position requirements evolve. Employment is contingent upon Board approval, successful completion of a federal background check, and a pre-employment drug-free workplace screen. The "at will" policy can only be altered if authorized in writing and approved by the Board of Trustees of District 331.
