Summary:
The primary purpose of the Teacher Assistant is to support the classroom teacher in delivering instruction and managing the learning environment. This includes helping with lesson preparation, supervising students, reinforcing learning concepts, providing individual or small group support. and assisting with classroom organization and behavior management.Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have the following: Education Associates Degree or 60 credit hours from accredited College or University Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, demonstrate self-discipline and initiative. License Valid Paraprofessional and/ or Substitute Teaching certificate from theIllinois State Board of Education Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are representative of performance expectations. A reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a qualified individual with a disability to perform essential functions. Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills introduced by the teacher. Assist with lesson preparation by copying and distributing materials, equipment and handouts. Support students who need additional assistance including those with learning difficulties or language barriers. Reinforce learning concepts introduced by the teacher. Discuss assigned teaching areas with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts. Communicate with the teacher about student performance and needs. Assist with recording of the daily attendance. Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to reinforce learning concepts. Assist the teacher with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, media center, and field trips. Assist the teacher in keeping bulletin boards and other classroom learning displays up to date: May be required to assist in the supervision of students at recess, lunch and bus arrivals and departures; escort and/or remain with classes in Art, Music and Physical Education as requested. Serve as a source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher. Participate in in-service training programs and professional development. Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students. ONE- ON•ONE
