Established in 1998, BSICS is a school comprised of two K-8 Chicago elementary campuses. Our Betty Shabazz Academy campus is located at 7823 S. Ellis Ave in Chatham. Our Barbara A. Sizemore Academy campus is located at 6547 S. Stewart Ave in Englewood. Our academic model incorporates history and culture as well as community service and character development into all aspects of our rigorous curriculum, school routines and physical environments. As a result, daily, our students are taught that with historical understanding, culture, community, planning, proper values, discipline, and individual and collective hard work they can overcome any challenge, academically excel and become transformational, next generation, global leaders. Paraprofessional at Betty Shabazz International Charter Schools play a vital role in providing support and assistance to students with diverse learning needs. In collaboration with classroom teachers, the Paraprofessional will work to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that fosters the academic and social growth of students with special needs. Paraprofessionals at BSICS are expected to: Collaborate with classroom teachers and the Special Education team to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs) for students with special needs. Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, reinforcing learning concepts and ensuring understanding of instructional materials. Assist students with daily tasks, including classroom assignments, activities, and personal care as needed. Support students during transitions between activities and settings, ensuring a smooth and safe experience. Foster positive and inclusive interactions among students, promoting social skills development and peer relationships. Help maintain a safe and organized classroom environment by managing student behavior and addressing challenges as they arise. Assist in the preparation of instructional materials, such as worksheets, visuals, and other resources, tailored to students' needs. Document and track student progress and behavior, providing regular updates to the Special Education team. Collaborate with related service providers, therapists, and parents to support students' comprehensive development. Attend training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in special education practices. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student information and sensitive matters related to the school community. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education. The instructional staff at Betty Shabazz is truly a Village of dynamic and experienced teachers committed to working together to help each other address all challenges to daily, successful teaching and student learning. As a member of our instructional team, hired Paraprofessionals will continuously grow in their instructional practices through regular participation with other teachers and staff in professional development, department meetings, in-person and video observations as well as coaching sessions. Also, all Paraprofessional hired are provided with supports to achieve their personal professional pursuits.
