Job Description

Visit School Website Catholic School Search The Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic schools serve more than 40,000 students in 154 elementary and high schools in Cook and Lake counties. It is one of the largest private school systems in the United States. Its schools have received 96 Blue Ribbon awards from the U.S. Department of Education over the past 10 Years. The After-School Caregiver is responsible for providing a safe, structured, and nurturing environment for students participating in the St. Frances of Rome School After Care Program. The caregiver supervises students beyond regular school hours, facilitates activities, supports homework completion, and promotes positive social interactions while ensuring compliance with school policies and program procedures. The After-School Caregiver reports directly to the Tuition Manager and School Principal. Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. during the academic year. Hours may vary based on program needs, school events, or student enrollment.
Qualifications:
Must be at least 21 years of age. Experience working with or supervising school-aged children (ages 3-14) in a structured setting through employment, volunteer work, or related experience. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered. Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, students, and families. Completion and maintenance of Virtus training requirements. Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR, Asthma, and Concussion certifications. Successful completion of required background checks and drug screening. Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate behavior management practices. Physical ability to sit on the floor, bend, lift, and actively engage with children. Demonstrated creativity, enthusiasm, and the ability to foster a positive and engaging environment for students. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming environment for students. Supervise students at all times while participating in the After Care Program. Take daily attendance and maintain accurate student sign-in and sign-out records. Assist students with homework and provide academic support as appropriate. Reinforce program rules, expectations, and school policies. Assist in resolving student conflicts and refer significant disciplinary concerns to the Principal. Plan, organize, facilitate, and supervise daily activities, including snack time, homework time, outdoor recreation, and indoor enrichment activities. Encourage student participation in creative, artistic, educational, recreational, and physical activities. Supervise students during outdoor play and recreation, weather permitting. Complete required documentation and reporting for Action for Children and other applicable program requirements. Communicate professionally with parents and guardians regarding student needs, concerns, and program expectations. Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and required training sessions. Support the mission and values of St. Frances of Rome School in all interactions with students, families, and staff. Perform other duties as assigned by the Tuition Manager or School Principal. An employee's pay within the hourly range will be based on many factors including but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and organizational needs.
