Job Description

Visit School Website Catholic School Search The Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic schools serve more than 40,000 students in 150+ elementary and high schools in Cook and Lake counties. It is one of the largest private school systems in the United States. Its schools have received 96 Blue Ribbon awards from the U.S. Department of Education over the past 10 years.
Primary Function:
The Middle School teacher assistant is responsible for helping students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, responsible adults under the direction of the classroom teacher/team. This team member will work with all middle school teachers and students. This position is for the 2026-2027 school year.
Key Relationships:
The teacher assistant reports to the principal and is supervised by the principal. Other key relationships include the assistant principal, grade level team, and his/her assigned teacher.

The teacher assistant must possess the ability to work tactfully and effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and parents. He/she must display evidence of an educational philosophy in agreement with that of Holy Family Catholic Academy. He/she must display an ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents.

Adheres to the unique Catholic mission and interfaith values of the Academy Utilizes effective instructional strategies with students Manages the students in a positive manner, respecting the dignity of all Completes annual goals Maintains a positive rapport with all members of HFCA community Fulfills routine duties and expectations in a dependable manner
Additional Requirements:
Respects the integrity of fellow staff, students, and parents by being discreet and tactful when discussing student and school-related issues Demonstrates flexibility and models collegiality Fulfills routine duties and expectations in a dependable manner Executes lesson plans as determined by the classroom teacher Uses instructional time efficiently Utilizes correct and appropriate written and oral communication in conversations, reports, and meetings Is punctual and effective in duties such as: morning supervision, hallway supervision, lunch supervision, after-school supervision, and curb or bus duty Physical Demands and Environment While performing this job, employees will be required to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods. Use of technical equipment such as laptop computers, overhead projectors, and whiteboards. They are also required to walk up and down stairs, as well as in the outdoor classroom. Some heavy lifting up to 30 pounds may be required.
