Job Description

The mission of the UCP-Center for Disability Services is to empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live fulfilling and independent lives by providing a range of innovative, compassionate, and comprehensive programs and services that promote independence, enjoyment, inclusion, self-advocacy, and a high quality of life. UCP-Center for Disabilities currently serves approximately 300 people annually with a multimillion-dollar budget.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Special Education Paraprofessional in the therapeutic day school supports individualized learning and emotional development for students with diverse needs, collaborating with educators to create a safe and nurturing environment that fosters academic and social success. The paraprofessional is accountable for supporting the classroom teacher in all aspects of classroom programming. This position includes the possibility of frequent changes in student and/or classroom assignments.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS/ACCOUNTABILITIES
Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Support Read and demonstrate a thorough understanding of assigned student's Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Implement and follow through with instructional activities, materials, and prompting hierarchies as outlined in students' IEPs in both classroom and community settings throughout the school day. Collect and record daily data for assigned students as specified by the classroom teacher. Student Support Provide individualized and group assistance in both educational and social development. Work with students in a positive and encouraging manner, following best practice recommendations from educators and specialists. Collaborate with classroom teachers, physical therapists (PT), occupational therapists (OT), speech-language pathologists (SLP), speech-language pathology assistants (SLPA), and behavior specialists to implement educational programs for students. Interpret students' behavior as communication and utilize data-based behavioral systems to address and support individual student needs. Provide personalized support to students with toileting and other ADLs by employing best practices in hygiene and mobility assistance, fostering independence while prioritizing the students' health and emotional well-being in a respectful and supportive manner. Demonstrate the ability to assist students through safe and compassionate techniques in positioning, lifting, transferring, and, when necessary, the use of restraints, ensuring the physical safety and comfort of each individual while maintaining their dignity. Assist in implementing behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and ensuring consistent application of strategies. Provide academic and behavioral support to any and all students across all grade levels, classrooms, and learning environments, as assigned by the principal or their designee. Training and Development Participate in ongoing professional development and training sessions, including all in-house training, relevant team training, and additional training assignments as designated. Stay updated on best practices and educational strategies in special education. educational environment. Responsiveness to Additional Duties Perform all other duties as assigned, which may include participating in school events, meetings, and fulfilling various responsibilities associated with the educational environment. Compliance and Ethics Always Adhere to all mandated reporter and Office of Inspector General (OIG) guidelines. Uphold confidentiality, privacy, and dignity of students in accordance with legal and ethical standards.

Monday - Friday 8:30 AM - 2:30
PM Qualifications:
At least 18 years of age but only may serve in prekindergarten through grade 8 At least 19 years of age to serve students in prekindergarten through grade 12 While working on the approval, educator must be fulfilling requirements for the full license Short-term approval for paraprofessionals is valid for 3 fiscal years and not renewable Short-term Paraprofessional Approvals are available for application until June 30, 2025 and may not be renewed Reports to: Special Education Teacher and/or
Director of School Services Key Competencies:
Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of classroom teachers, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Language Pathologist, Speech Language Pathologist Assistant and Behavior Therapist. Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans for the students and monitor their progress Provide support for individuals students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities Assist classroom teachers with maintaining student records
