The Village of Rantoul is now accepting applications for After-School Teaching Assistants for the 2026-2027 school year. Under the direction of the After-School Site Coordinator, the After-School Teaching Assistant assists with activities, homework, recreation, and supervision while helping maintain a positive, welcoming, and safe environment for participating children. The Teaching Assistant supports the supervision, safety, and engagement of school-aged children and helps organize and lead daily activities while serving as a positive role model.
REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 18 years of age Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Paraprofessional License preferred Previous experience working with elementary school-aged children preferred Basic knowledge and understanding of the needs and behaviors of school-aged children Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions Ability to interact courteously and professionally with children, parents/guardians, coworkers, and the public Ability to answer routine questions or direct individuals to the appropriate person for assistance Must demonstrate honesty, dependability, good judgment, and a positive attitude Must maintain a neat and professional appearance Must be physically capable of performing the essential duties of the position, including actively supervising and participating in activities with children Must be available Monday through Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., during the academic school year
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Provide appropriate leadership, guidance, and supervision to students participating in the After-School Program Assist with preparing and supervising daily snacks for students Assist in developing and planning age-appropriate activities that incorporate established program goals and are approved by the Program Coordinator/Teacher Create and maintain a warm, caring, welcoming, and positive atmosphere for all participants Maintain open and effective communication with After-School Program staff and school personnel Prepare and conduct activities that are developmentally appropriate for the ages and abilities of participating children Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment for students at all times Assist students with homework and participate in recreational activities, arts and crafts, sports, technology, and other educational or enrichment activities Monitor student behavior and address routine issues in an appropriate and professional manner Report concerns or problems involving students, employees, volunteers, parents/guardians, or school personnel to the Site Coordinator Maintain confidentiality regarding students and program-related information Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and other meetings as requested Maintain a positive and professional attitude toward students, coworkers, parents/guardians, volunteers, coordinators, and school personnel Keep classrooms, activity areas, and other school spaces used by the program neat, clean, and orderly Follow all applicable program policies, school rules, safety procedures, and emergency procedures Perform other duties as assigned
