POSITION PURPOSE
Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, to assist certified professional staff with all students in all classroom settings to meet instructional goals and objectives of the school and district.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Task Completion Demonstrates reliability (attendance, punctuality, meeting deadlines) Demonstrates skill and proficiency in carrying out assignments Possesses skills and knowledge to perform the job competently Demonstrates skills at planning, organizing and prioritizing workload (For self and direct reports, If applicable) Holds self accountable for assigned responsibilities; sees tasks through to completion in a timely manner Demonstrates ability to work independently Collaboration and Communication Communicates effectively with supervisor, peers, and stakeholders Demonstrates ability to work cooperatively with supervision or as part of a team Possesses adeptness at analyzing facts, problem solving, decision making, and demonstrating good judgment Displays fairness towards all colleagues and students Instructional Responsibilities Assists and guides students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills. Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs. Assists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs. Assists with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance. Assists with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task. Assists students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas. Accompanies students on field trips for the purpose of assisting with supervision. Assists students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion, learning, achievement of IEP objectives, etc. Assist students with special needs with daily living activities for the purpose of maximizing their ability to participate in school learning activities. Completes other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or the building principal. Demonstrates willingness to grow professionally by participating in opportunities for development offered by the district.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation. Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs. Demonstrates ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel). Demonstrates ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others. Demonstrates ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students. Possesses effective writing and verbal communication skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalent. Prior experience working with children, preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Ability to lift and/or carry 25 lbs. Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations. Ability to see for the purpose of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matter. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels. Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation. Ability to operate office equipment. Ability to reach in all directions.
