Company Description Journey Academy is a private school in Northwest Indiana serving students with diverse learning and support needs. This position is specifically for our Royal Campus behavioral program, which serves students with emotional disabilities and significant behavioral needs in a highly supported educational environment. Our program focuses on helping students develop emotional regulation, behavioral, social, and academic skills while providing the individualized support they need to be successful at school. Role Description This is an on-site position in Michigan City, IN. The Education Paraprofessional will work directly with students with emotional disabilities who may demonstrate significant or challenging behaviors. This position works closely with teachers and behavioral staff to help students regulate emotions, manage behaviors, participate safely in the school environment, and make progress toward educational and behavioral goals. Candidates should be patient, dependable, calm under pressure, and comfortable supporting students during behavioral escalation. Responsibilities Provide direct one-on-one and small-group support to students with emotional disabilities and behavioral needs Assist students with emotional regulation, coping strategies, transitions, and behavioral expectations Support implementation of IEPs and behavior intervention plans Respond calmly and appropriately during behavioral escalation Use de-escalation and positive behavior-support strategies Help maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment Provide academic, behavioral, and physical assistance as needed Support hygiene, personal care, and toileting when applicable Monitor student behavior and communicate observations to the team Collaborate with teachers, behavioral staff, and administrators Follow established safety, behavioral, and crisis-response procedures Maintain student and staff confidentiality Attend required professional development and crisis-intervention training Follow staff and administrative directives consistently and professionally Maintain reliable and consistent attendance Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent (required) 60 college credit hours or passing score on the ParaPro Assessment preferred Experience with students with emotional disabilities, behavioral challenges, or special education needs strongly preferred Ability to remain calm and professional during challenging behavioral situations Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills Willingness to complete CPI or other required crisis-prevention training Comfortable providing hands-on student support when appropriately trained Ability and willingness to assist with hygiene and personal care needs when applicable Salary Competitive daily rate based on experience and education Non-Discrimination Statement Journey Academy is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity or sexual orientation), disability, age, religion, military status, ancestry, or genetic information.
