  • Full-time Job Summary Journey Academy is seeking a Special Education Teacher to work with students who have significant behavioral, social-emotional, and communication needs, including students who are minimally verbal and use AAC or other alternative communication systems.
In this vital role, you will develop and implement individualized educational plans, foster inclusive classroom environments, and collaborate with families and multidisciplinary teams to promote student growth. Your enthusiasm for empowering children with disabilities will help unlock their full potential and create a positive, engaging learning experience for every student.   • Develop and implement engaging, standards-based lesson plans and instructional activities
  • Utilize various teaching methods and materials to support diverse learning styles
  • Establish and communicate clear learning goals and classroom expectations
  • Monitor student progress, assign and grade work, and provide regular feedback
  • Maintain accurate student records in accordance with laws and district policies
  • Foster a positive classroom environment and manage student behavior effectively
  • Participate in school meetings, professional development and parent communications
  • Stay current with best practices, curriculum updates, and instructional strategies
  • Collaborate with other staff/team members to provide consistent and sequenced educational experiences aligned to appropriate state standards
  • Direct and support paraprofessional(s)
  • Implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for all assigned students
  • Adapt classroom activities and materials to meet individualized learning needs
  • Provide personal care assistance for students with medical needs/toileting needs
  • Administer standardized and developmental assessments (e.g., ILEARN, IAM)
  • Offer guidance to staff regarding special education services
  • Integrate relevant technology into instruction and student learning
  • Maintain accurate and compliant documentation as required by DOE and Journey Academy policies
  • Maintain student and staff confidentiality
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative classroom environment that supports students' social-emotional growth
  • Respond constructively to feedback and participate in ongoing professional growth opportunities
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the school community Salary
