EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONAL REPORTS TO
Classroom Teacher/Building Principal SUMMARY :
180 Days. Salary based on Richmond Community Schools Non-Contractual Salary Schedule. Assists and supports professional staff in a variety of instructional and related school activities to meet the needs of special education students as determined by their Individualized Education Program (IEP).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
: Be present, on time and ready to work. Maintain the high level of ethical behavior that is expected of all Richmond Community Schools staff. Maintain confidentiality of information about students and staff. Assist as assigned in areas of instruction including, but not limited to, academics, fine arts, physical education and vocational programming. Supervise teacher-planned activities. Assist special education students with make-up work. Assist special education students individually and in small groups with seatwork and other assignments. Assist special education students with group projects. Assist with practice of dramas or presentations where special education students are involved. Assist substitute teachers by providing necessary information on classroom routine and special student needs in the regular teachers' absence. Operate audio-visual equipment and computers as needed for instructional purposes. Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and learning centers. Escort special education students on trips outside the classroom under the direction of the teacher. Escort special education students to regular classroom activities, therapy sessions, lunchroom, restroom, buses, etc. Assist in emergency evacuation or protection of students as assigned. Attend to toileting, feeding, locomotion, and personal hygiene needs of special education students as needed. Model appropriate interaction skills, social skills, and conflict management in the school environment. Observe and record student behavior as directed. Assist special education students with adaptive devices as needed. Participate in pre-service and in-service training programs. Perform other duties as assigned by principal or teacher to meet the needs of special education students as determined by their Individualized Education Program (IEP)...
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
: Possess interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Must complete training that will be available through online modules or professional development, this training will be provided for your prospective job.
EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Good oral and written communication skills.
REASONING ABILITY
Must be able to problem solve.
