Special Education Para Educator
- Resource (2026/2027 School Year) Job Description
Purpose:
Resource Paraprofessionals assist in supporting students, teachers, and administrators to create a positive learning environment that facilitates the personal, social, and intellectual development of students with disabilities.
Reports to:
Building Principal FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt, Classified Matrix Column D (placement based on relevant years of experience in a K-12 setting)
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Basic computer skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made).
Preferred Qualifications:
Associates Degree or higher
Experience working with students with disabilities
Essential Functions:
To perform the responsibilities and roles of a Para Educator successfully, an individual must be able to:
Facilitate and support a positive learning environment, and respond to individual educational, social, and behavioral needs of students with disabilities
Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community
React to change and frequent interruptions productively and positively, including but not limited to new duties, assignments, and student caseloads
Operate all classroom equipment appropriately
Observe and follow all school district policies (including health and safety policies)
Work to implement the District's vision, mission, and goals
Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work
Prepare and present classroom activities under the supervision of a licensed teacher
Work with individual and small groups of students to reinforce curriculum material and complete assignments provided by the teacher
Work with students who may exhibit behavioral difficulties such as yelling and refusal
Guide students in independent study, enrichment, or remedial work provided by teachers
Support students' individual needs throughout the school setting (e.g., lunch, recess, sports)
Escort students to and from the general education setting to a special education classroom
Support the various needs of students with disabilities while in the general and special education classrooms
Collect data on student progress toward IEP goals
Keep student and personnel records confidential
Respond to information requested in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner
Adhere strictly to professional ethics
Perform clerical duties when requested to include data entry into a computer
Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as directed by the principal or teacher
Physical Demands:

Sit and stand for extended periods of time
Enter data into a computer, to see and read a computer screen and printed materials with or without vision aids
Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone
Speak in an audible tone so that others may clearly understand in typical classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone
Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height
Bend, stoop, and sit on the floor for prolonged periods of time
Climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead
Ability to work in both an indoor and outdoor environment
Terms of Employment:
At-will employment. Salary and work schedule as determined by the Board.
Evaluation:
Performance evaluations in accordance with the Board's policy and the Classified Employee Handbook.
