Districtwide Description:
Works with teachers of children with disabilities in grades preschool through grade 14 Assist with Admission and Release Committee (ARC) Meetings, as necessary Monitor compliance of Special Education records. Ensure timelines are met for evaluations, annual reviews, etc. Attend trainings related to Special Education (Response to Intervention, Legal Updates, Procedures, Transition, Preschool, Instruction, Curriculum, etc.) Serve as mentor to new Special Education teachers. Participate in school/based Intervention Assistance Team process and/or collaborate with school staff on intervention plan development procedures. Assist with completing state level reports. Consult with the school personnel concerning the behavior and academic needs of students with disabilities. Assist school and district personnel in obtaining previous school and due process records of students who have transferred into Logan County from other school districts. Review records to determine eligibility based on Kentucky Guidelines and appropriateness of the Individual Education Plan Ensure that data is maintained in regards to student performance levels and extended school year Assist in maintaining the organization of special education folders. Assist in training new teachers (writing Individualized Education Plans, procedures, Research Based Teaching Strategies, Formative Assessment, etc.) Assist in continuous evaluation/improvement planning of the Special Education program. Explore evidence-based programs/practices in core content areas for implementation with Special Education students. Assist in training teachers on topics related to curriculum and instruction. Provide guidance regarding best practices in instruction through observation and feedback. Provide support to parents by disseminating information to enhance understanding of psychoeducational issues, parenting skills, and involvement in their child's education Support school staff in implementation and oversight of the Autism Cadre Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education Applicant needs to hold a teaching certification specific to special education. This applicant also needs to have a minimum of 5 years of experience in special education. Director of Special Education certification preferred.
