At Conservatory Lab, we believe in the power of music and learning to transform the lives of our students and their families. At the core of our pioneering curriculum is the hybrid of two proven and exemplary programs: El Sistema and Expeditionary Learning. Both programs emphasize the experience of breaking through barriers in the pursuit of excellence - creating a culture and habit of perseverance. Taken together, these two programs motivate and nurture our students to become dedicated scholars, compassionate leaders, and skilled musicians. Conservatory Lab is a charter public school located in Dorchester, Massachusetts serving students from all over the City of Boston. The school population includes a majority of students from historically underrepresented communities, and supports all students as they develop a sense of ownership of their learning.
Extended Learning:
The Make Move Jam Extended Learning Program is designed to include elements of the National Arts Education Association's (NAEA) High Level standards combined with guidelines for Creative Youth Development. Past programs have included not just the arts (visual arts, dance, chorus, media arts, and creative writing) but place-based learning, coding, and STEAM.
Position Summary:
The Program Specialist will collaborate closely with the Coordinator of Extended Learning to facilitate daily program operations and ensure a dynamic, engaging after-school environment for elementary and middle school students. This role involves both curriculum development and site-based program support.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with Program Coordinator to develop and implement curriculum incorporating arts, STEAM, and project-based learning principles. Perform operational duties that support program vision including data entry and record keeping. Provide individualized guidance to students, fostering academic, artistic, and social-emotional growth. Maintain strong communication with school staff and families to support student engagement and success. Desired Qualifications:
Experience working with school-aged children in an educational or arts-based setting. Passion for project-based learning, arts education, and youth development. Strong classroom management skills and the ability to engage students across various age groups. Tech savvy with excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a flexible and adaptive approach, including familiarity with Excel or Google Sheets Understanding of child development and best practices in classroom facilitation and management. Ability to encourage student growth through active listening, open-ended questioning, and constructive feedback. Bachelor's degree required; an advanced degree or teaching certification is a plus.
