This program simulates industry settings, including kitchen labs, commercial bake shops, and front-of-the-house service. The Teaching Assistant will support students as they develop technical skills, industry knowledge, and safe, high-quality work practices aligned with the Massachusetts Vocational Technical Education Frameworks. This role involves assisting both in classroom instruction and in live lab environments, helping to ensure students are engaged, supported, and successful.
Candidates must demonstrate and/or possess:
A passion for working with a diverse student population; Knowledge of basic instructional and learning strategies; Ability to support students in both classroom and hands-on lab settings; & Strong communication and collaboration skills. Bilingual prefered. Satisfactory SAFIS, CORI and SORI required.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Teaching Assistant
REPORTING STRUCTURE
The Teaching Assistant reports to the CTAE Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent. Demonstrated front-of-house foodservice or hospitality experience (e.g., customer service, table service, hosting, or restaurant operations). Knowledge of or willingness to learn best practices of vocational education. Experience working with high school-aged students. Knowledge of technology, including computers and related software used for instructional and operational purposes. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent-Director may find appropriate and in conformity with state and federal law.
DUTIES:
Under supervision, assists the Teacher in the administration of instruction in traditional and non traditional settings; Assist the Teacher in the preparation of lessons and other related learning materials; Integrates the basic principles of child development to complement learning goals; Redirects and adapts students who are observed having difficulties towards the appropriate classroom resources; Builds formidable and educationally appropriate relationships with students; Implements appropriate accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities; Performs other duties as required and assumes such other responsibilities as the Coordinator or their Designee may assign.
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
This position requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift 30 pounds at times. The position may require in and out-of-district travel.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a 10-month position, 184 day position, with hours to be set by the Coordinator or designee. Salary and fringe benefits are established by the Superintendent-Director in accordance with the policies established by the School Committee.
