Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School Committee and the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional Secretaries and Assistants Association located on the DY website. All paraprofessionals must meet certification requirements as determined by the Every Student Succeeds Act. Individuals with an Associate's degree or higher, or who have obtained 48 credit hours from an accredited higher education institution, have met this requirement and will need to provide a copy of a transcript showing your highest degree earned. The finalpathway to meet this requirement is passing the Massachusetts ParaPro or Workkeys Assessment certification within the first year of employment. Assists the Speech Language Pathologist to provide speech and language therapy services for students with communication disorders. Work under the direction of a Speech Language Pathologist throughout the District, with students who have communication, emotional, or developmental impairments. The ultimate goal is to improve individuals' communication skills. Support students with a wide range of disabilities such as low-incidence disabilities, autism, social-emotional needs, communication disorders, speech delays and behavioral concerns. SLPA may work in an early education, inclusion setting, substantially separate classroom or home. This may be 1:1 or in a small group.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Assists with information documentation, as directed. Maintains files and records including but not limited to progress reports and other required documentation. Prepares, under the direction of the Speech language Pathologist, materials necessary to provide speech/language services. Provides direct instructional support to students with disabilities in the classroom or in a separate setting. Provides access to learning and curricular materials, as directed by the Speech/Language Therapist. Collects data regarding students' goals and/or objectives, as directed by Speech/Language Therapist. Supports the behavioral/social-emotional needs of children by utilizing pro-active, pro-social problem solving skills. Provides assistance with equipment (i.e. assistive technology/augmentative communication devices). Fosters student independence while supporting individual needs. Is responsible for carrying out tasks that allow students to meet their IEP goals and appropriately function in the educational setting. Supporting the toileting and daily living skills of students may be an essential function of the job. Maintains proper confidentiality of student records. Sets a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance.QUALIFICATIONS
SPLA license required. CPR and First Aid Certifications are desirable. Participate in annual training, for blood borne pathogens, universal precautions, 51A, bullying, epi-pen, etc. Associate's degree from college; or two years related experience and/or training. Possess an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of child development (intellectual, social/emotional, and physical) and 12 months experience working with students with special needs is desirable.PRIMARY JOB CONTACT
