QUALIFICATIONS
1.Master's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in field of specialty. 2.Appropriate and valid Massachusetts Certification per regulations of the Massachusetts Department of Education. 3.At a minimum (5) years of successful experience as a special education teacher. 4.Demonstrated aptitude for innovative development of curriculum; i.e. projects, curriculum workshops, and/or associated staff training and orientation. 5.Practical experience in special education leadership. 6.Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal 7.Possess excellent organizational skills and problem solving skills. 8.Proven ability in interpersonal skills. 9.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Department may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO
Administrator of Pupil Personnel and Services
SUPERVISES
All professional special education staff and related service providers in grades K-12 who are assigned by the Director of Pupil Personnel and Services.
JOB GOAL
To insure that each student in the district receives the richest educational experience the district can provide by exhibiting leadership in: the development, implementation and coordination of special education; the improvement in the quality of instruction; and the availability of appropriate resources.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
(include but are not limited to): 1.Provides leadership in enforcing school and administrative policies and special education regulations. 2.Assists the Administrator of Pupil Personnel Services in all areas of special education, educational stability, medicare, and special education transportation. 3.Supports the implementation of 504 Accommodation plans, including eligibility, testing and oversight as assigned. 4.Provides programmatic consultation, oversight, and development to district-wide programming as assigned. 5.Develops, leads, and evaluates district PD for special education and regular education staff, including paraprofessionals, as assigned. 6.Participates in district-wide special education meetings as assigned, including team, school, and district. 7.Participates in fiscal planning of special education budgeting and management. 8.Supervises and evaluates staff as assigned 9.Participates in district-wide presentations as assigned, such as SEPAC, School Committee, Inclusion Task Force 10.Evaluates and reviews the performance of all professional staff assigned in accordance with contractual and administrative procedures 11.Works with building principals in the improvement of individual staff competencies. 12.Meets with other department heads to promote interdisciplinary programs. 13.Keeps informed on educational innovations and trends as they relate to department concerns. 14.Seeks, writes, and manages grants applicable to the special education department in coordination with the Administrator for Pupil Personnel and Services, the Assistant Superintendent, and the Superintendent. 15.Performs such other related tasks and assumes such other related responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Assistant Superintendent and or the Superintendent of Schools. 16.
