Job Description

Position Title:
Part-Time Food Program Assistant (7:30am - 1:00pm Monday-Friday)
FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt Position Purpose:
The Part-Time Food Program Assistant supports the daily operation of the school's meal program by serving, and cleaning up pre-packaged breakfast and lunch while helping ensure students have a positive, safe, and welcoming dining experience. Between meal service periods, this position provides general operational support to the school by assisting with schoolwide organization, light administrative tasks, and other projects that contribute to the smooth operation of the school. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, takes pride in providing excellent service, and is willing to jump in wherever help is needed.
Core Responsibilities:
Food Program Operations:
The Part-Time Food Program Assistant will: Receive, organize, and distribute daily breakfast and lunch deliveries. Set up and serve meals in accordance with school procedures and food service requirements. Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary food service area. Monitor food temperatures and follow all applicable food safety and sanitation guidelines. Tidy and organize food service equipment and supplies after meal service. Track meal counts and complete required food service documentation as assigned. Report food inventory or ordering needs to the Operations Lead.
Student Support During Meal Service:
The Part-Time Food Program Assistant will: Create a welcoming and positive environment during meal service. Encourage respectful behavior and reinforce school expectations during meal times. Communicate student concerns or incidents to appropriate staff members. Assist students as needed while promoting independence.
School Operations Support:
The Part-Time Food Program Assistant will: Assist with classroom preparation, organization, and material distribution. Support copying, laminating, assembling instructional materials, and other teacher requests. Help organize supplies, storage areas, and shared school spaces. Assist with preparing for school events and meetings. Assist with classroom coverage occasionally as needed. Complete light administrative and operational projects assigned by the Operations Lead. Support other school operational needs as assigned.
Collaboration and Professional Practice:
The Part-Time Food Program Assistant will: Work collaboratively with teachers, office staff, and school leadership. Maintain positive and professional relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Follow all school policies related to safety, confidentiality, and student supervision. Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to assist wherever needed to support the school community.
Essential Functions:
The essential functions of the Part-Time Food Program Assistant position include, but are not limited to: Setting up, distributing, and cleaning up school breakfast and lunch. Maintaining food safety and sanitation standards. Lifting, carrying, moving, and organizing food, supplies, and equipment. Standing and walking for extended periods throughout the workday. Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Working collaboratively with school staff to support daily operations. Supporting school operations through administrative and organizational projects. Regular and reliable attendance.
Performance Expectations:
Performance will be evaluated based on: Food Program Operations Meals are set up, served, and cleaned up safely, efficiently, and on schedule. Food service areas are consistently clean, organized, and compliant with sanitation standards. Required documentation is completed accurately and on time. Operational Support Assigned operational projects are completed accurately and efficiently. School supplies, materials, and shared spaces remain organized and well maintained. Demonstrates initiative by identifying ways to support daily school operations. Student Support Students experience a safe, welcoming, and orderly meal environment. Positive interactions with students reinforce school expectations and community values. Professional Responsibilities Demonstrates reliability, flexibility, and a strong work ethic. Collaborates effectively with colleagues and responds positively to feedback. Regular and reliable attendance Contributes to a positive, respectful, and service-oriented school culture.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience in food service, childcare, customer service, or a school setting preferred. Servsafe certification (or willingness to obtain) a must. Ability to follow food safety and sanitation procedures. Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds and remain on feet for extended periods. CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) preferred.

Compensation:
$35,000-$45,000 annually (part-time)
