Lead Teaching Assistant Description:
The Summer Vacation Art Program at the New Art Center seeks Senior Teaching Assistants to supervise students grades 1-6. The program consists of ten week-long sessions, beginning Monday, June 22 and ending on Friday, August 28 (NAC is closed July 3 & 4). Senior Teaching Assistants will report to the Education Manager, Summer Program Coordinator and Art Instructors. The Senior TAs will assist other Teaching Assistants, to provide behavioral classroom support for higher-needs students, oversee lunch and snack breaks, and help provide safe and creative environments for a camp of up to 75 students each week. Summer Art Program Senior TAs will assist in supervising different camp groups of up to 15 students (grades 1-6) during program hours (9AM- 4PM, with extended day options). TAs will assist summer faculty and staff in teaching lessons, preparing materials, keeping the NAC spaces and studios clean andanized, and providing a fun and safe environment for students. They will also oversee free time, lunch and snack breaks. When available, a counselor-in-training or aide may be assigned to help TAs.
GENERAL DUTIES
Conduct tours with iing students to prepare them ahead of attending camp Act as first line of behavioral issues, looping the Summer Coordinator Provide additional hands-on support for higher needs students Substitute teach wver needed, using provided lesson plan Ability to support students in their daily camp activities Consistent, reliable and punctual attendance Be courteous, informative, responsive, and professional at all times Other tasks as needed
THINGS TO NOTE
Candidates with the necessary skills, experience, and passion who are able tomit to the full 10-week program will be given priority, but partial season applicants are wee too Orientation, first aid, and mental health training will be provided prior to the first week. Training will be repeated twice during the summer for partial-season faculty and staff. Orientation will be provided for all faculty. CORI clearance and proof of ability to legally work in the US will be required. This position is part-time starting in May and temporary full-time (June 15-August 28) and not eligible for benefits other than paid holiday (July 4th). Qualifications:
3+ years of working with elementary aged students Flexibility working in a learning environment Ability to work independently, collaboratively, reliably, and to manage one's time Ability to work effectively in teams and independently Knowledge of general safety rules and basic first aid Ability to engage students with different learning styles BA preferred Demonstrated ability with emotional intelligence, humility, culturalpetence, feedback skills, and the ability to sustain trusted relationships with a wide array of people Experience implementing and maintaining consistent classroom management, conflict resolution, and de-escalation strategies with youth
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires the ability to remain active throughout the day, including standing and walking for extended periods, moving between classrooms and outdoor spaces, and frequently going up and down stairs. Responsibilities include setting up and breaking down classrooms, which may involve lifting and moving chairs, tables, and art supplies. The New Art Center's studios and classrooms are located on multiple levels and arenot currently ADA accessible, and staff must be able to navigate stairs regularly as part of their daily responsibilities.
