HOURS:
Monday through Friday, 6.5 hours per day plus a half hour unpaid lunch
COMPENSATION
Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School Committee and the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional Secretaries and Assistants Association located on the DY website ($29.23-$35.80/hour) All internal applicants who are interested in this position should apply within ten days of this posting. All paraprofessionals must meet certification requirements as determined by the Every Student Succeeds Act. Individuals with an Associate's degree or higher, or who have obtained 48 credit hours from an accredited higher education institution, have met this requirement and will need to provide a copy of a transcript showing your highest degree earned. The finalpathway to meet this requirement is passing the Massachusetts ParaPro or Workkeys Assessment certification within the first year of employment. Description:
Supports students, which may include, but not limited to, students with: low-incidence disabilities, autism, social-emotional needs, and behavioral concerns. Support may occur in an early education setting, inclusion setting, substantially separate classroom or home. This may be 1:1 or in a small group. Work schedule as assigned by the building principal. Assignments are not binding and may be adjusted by administration at any time based on district needs. You are an employee of the District, not necessarily one specific school or program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides direct instructional support to students with disabilities in the classroom or in a separate setting. Implements and/or adapts modifications and accommodations to the environment or curricular materials as directed by the special education teacher/liaison, classroom teacher or related services provider. Collects data regarding students' goals and/or objectives, behavior plans, and program books as directed by licensed staff. Supports the behavioral/social-emotional needs of children by utilizing pro-active, pro-social problem solving skills. Support special education students by providing assistance with equipment (i.e. assistive technology). Assist with the supervision of students during play and lunch periods. Foster student independence while supporting individual needs. Responsible for carrying out tasks that allow students to meet their IEP goals and appropriately function in the educational setting. Tasks may include assisting with behavior, medical, social, academic or self-help interventions. Assist in the lifting of students into medical equipment, such as standers or other adaptive equipment as needed or as required in IEP. Maintain proper confidentiality of student records. Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance. Support students with toileting and/or other daily living skills (i.e. feeding, cleaning, etc.) Conduct physical restraint when the criteria has been reached to ensure safety of the student. Physical restraint shall be conducted in accordance with state regulation, district policy and restraint protocol. Wear protective clothing or equipment as required by the District. Implements behavior programs and/or program books developed by the licensed staff including but not limited to special education teachers, BCBA's, special education administrators. Follow behavior intervention plans to reduce challenging behaviors and promote positive behaviors.
Qualifications:
Must be highly qualified. Associate's degree, 2 years of college or passing score on the ParaPro test. Knowledge of child development (intellectual, social/emotional, and physical) and 12 months experience working with students with special needs is desirable. The following training is required for the position (either pre-employment or provided by the District post-employment (compensated): Discrete Trial Training and Naturalistic ABA Self-Regulation and Social Skills De-escalation, redirection and physical restraint Compliance monitoring Data collection Other required training as deemed necessary or substituted by the District
